Love how Columbus has slowly built a quality team through the draft, and they do have a decent farm system, but are we sure that what we saw last night wasn't a fluke? A lot of these kids on Columbus's team last night were giving it their all to make one final impression so as not to be cut. The Sabres walked into the game with mostly starters who just wanted to get the preseason over.
By the third period the team on the ice with the real talent showed up and started to take things over. If, there were another 10 minutes worth of playing time the Sabres would have one. |

the sabres were in the same position the night before when they iced a group headed for Rochester against a Minnesota club gearing up for the regular season...buffalo got smoked, 6-1
that said, both the jackets and wild have had the same coach for a few years and their top players have been with the club at least as long so there's continuity...something the sabres won't have for a while |

Cbus impressed me with their size and aggressive play. They were clearly the better team through 40 minutes. I think in the 3rd they were just trying to get out of there.
That said, I like the way the Sabres showed up in their house and took the play to Cbus. Kinda reminded of the Bills comeback against The Patriots. Let's hope the Sabres learned something from that game and use it going forward. They were embarrassed. |

True, and I did think of that, but just because our youngsters got smoked by Parise and friends, doesn't mean Columbus's youngster are all that much far a head of them. This could really be nothing more than a case of our starting roster not coming out to play yesterday until the 3rd period, when they tried to save-face and not get embarrassed on home ice.
Now, if there is evidence of Columbus's prospects doing this to another teams starts that's a different story, and I'll have to take a deeper look at their farm system. |

it's loaded...hockey's future has them 10th, which I think is well below where they should be rated |

that first two periods did anything but get me excited for the season
reminded me a lot of the old core (suck sisters) - homiedclown
except they got better as the game went on which is basically the complete opposite. |

nah, I saw this crap when briere and drury left
team gets owned for 40, then shows up for the third
no heart or effort in the first 40, just going through the motions on the fans nickel
very disturbing IMO |

Them playing poorly for two periods in a meaningless pre season game is disturbing? You do know this team isn't actually good this year right? like as in nobody expects them to have more wins than losses? it's a growth year. It would be disturbing if the expectation was to compete for a cup this year. But for a young team? It's just part of rebuilding.
Besides, no team in this league is going to give a 100% effort over all 3 periods for 82 games a year, it just doesn't happen. It's no different than the average person going through the motions in school or work. |

Two things I'm excited for this year:
1. Actually cheering for the sabres to win and not booing when they get a scrub goal which could of cost us eichel.
2. Seeing some talent on the roster so I can stop reading idiot posts on here telling us to claim scrubs like bickell or Richards off of waivers |

Yeah, that was the 06/07 M.O. No showing up until ten minutes left in the 3rd and then scoring 2-3 goals to win it in overtime. Coaching better put an end to that cockiness fast. |

17,578 people paid hard earned money to see that crap for 40 minutes
outshot 21 to 10 through 40
and they looked anything but ready to play for the hometown fans
no excuse for that vs an ahl team |

Victor Olofsson gets a goal + assist today as MODO falls to FBK 4-3 in OT. Olofsson is MODO's leading point-getter thru six games with 2+5. |

Sorry for the delayed response...had to run to the store and other errands.
I agree Pach...up and down and I'm excited to see it and root for them to win.
I'm treating them like a second or 3rd year in the franchises history...the fun to me is watching the team formation and development...rather than expecting them to win all the time. Like enjoying the elevator ride up to the observation deck...not just waiting to get there.
Enjoy..and keep writing GREAT blogs man, I look forward to them! |

So, I thought of the same watching it live...but then I burned one, had some bourbon and was highly rewarded and left with a good taste in my mouth...much different then the Bills comeback to save face against NE...there I was just pissed because I expect them to be highly competitive in each game this season...and they simply blew it. Sabres are a young team going through growing pains and this was one of them in a game that didn't count |

Eh, young team is going to have these issues...up to guys like Gionta, ROR, Moulson, etc to lite a fire under these guys.
Somebody did between 2nd & 3rd .. Would love to know who said what...was it the coaches...or was it a young in...or a designated leader. Seems McGinn had his head screwed on straight |
