Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Game Day: October 16 vs St Louis Blues - Baertschi to Sit Sven Baertschi looks like he'll be the odd man out as the Vancouver Canucks face the big St. Louis Blues on Friday night at Rogers Arena.

i'm sure you guys are all just waiting for a flames fan to chime in on sven....so here i am.

so odd with the guy. he says the right things, there are times when you can see the effort, the results are sporadic, and now two respected NHL coaches have been teeing off on him for style of play and commitment. i know it's early and he has lots of time left to try to prove himself, but it sure feels similar to his time in calgary so far.

"Pointless in his first four games, Baertschi's expected to take a seat in the press box for tonight's game against St. Louis, while all three rookies draw in. "

Baertschi had an assist on Horvat's goal.

I actually wish they would let him work it out with Horvat and Vrbata. They obviously were getting chances and controlling the play but I noticed him being fairly timid. I think more time and comfort from being on the ice with the same players would bring some accountability to be as aggressive as his linemates are for loose pucks

I think he has until TDL to get his poope together. That would be about it. Is it too long of a leash we will see.

Agreed he shows signs of having a massive upside, we just haven't seen any level of consistency yet. It's early in the season and with injuries coming Sven should slot back into a larger role...but he has to earn it somehow. He comes across as a tad arrogant at times but still, needs to get it done on the ice. I don't know much about his Calgary situation and I haven't heard much about how WD has questioned his efforts here.

I didn't want anything to do with even Higgins in the top 6 and now they have Prust penciled in??? This should be interesting.

Ya I would have just kept the same line up from last game. Sven cant get going from the press box. I dont think hes been terrible hes just not great but he seems to have always be streaky. Perhaps this will wake him up a bit.

I imagine its a short leash and JV is first in line to fill that spot once Prust returns to his usual self, though WD will likely give it to whoever is "going" from any other line

Prust is in the top five Canucks scoring... why shouldn't he be on the 2nd line... at least until he cools down if that, or someone else heats up enough to take his spot.

Our leading goal scorer, Adam Cracknell, is also on a 40+ goal pace.

St Lou played last night and a back to back out of their time zone.

Couple that with three rookies who will notch up the speed of the game...

Couple that with Vancouver is not only rested but have not been out of their time zone in four games...

Vancouver 3 -1

Prust job is to eat minutes while the 1st and 2nd line rests. He has a different skills set that may end in goals but not really expected to.

Prust on the 2nd line would probably not be a terrible place for him but now he is no longer playing against the other team's 4th line and playing the faster, more skilled players could be very bad.

Anyone else notice to correlation between the amount the Leaf's are losing and the amount of TSN using their main headline to promote next year's #1 draft pick?
