It might be fun, sure. Could be very entertaining.
I'm still extremely disinterested though, as I feel most people are. That's why the NHL is doing this, they know the All Star game is largely tuned out by most fans.
But sure, go for it, maybe i'll check it out.

Not excited. One player from every team needs to go if you are only selecting 11 from each division. |

If the league wanted to make it a little more about hockey they could get the best players in each conference to juggle flaming bowling pins while blindfolded and riding a unicycle. |

Try to sell it all you want, but imho it's nothing more than lost weekend on the regular season schedule.

How about this? Participate in the Olympics every 4 years, hold a pre-season World Cup 2 years after every Olympics, and then have an All-Star game every 40,000 years. |

The idea of giving an incentive isn't a bad one. Although, I don't see why they couldn't make it like baseball and just give the winning division home ice all the way to the finals.
Second, why only 11 players? That's basically 3 lines. 2F, 1D on each 'line'. So they are playing 3 on 3, which is much more taxing than 5 on 5 and instead of adding a line, they are subtracting one?
That makes zero sense. Expect injuries. By the finals, expect breakaways back and forth. |

Why the $1 million prize pool? they don't make enough?
It should go to the winning team's charity or something, with a subtle $100,000 for second place. |

I think the format sounds interesting.
props to the NHL for trying new things and trying to drum up some interest.
Who knows how invested the players will be or how exciting the action will be, but hey, i think it sounds fun.
Haters gonna hate though. |

The winners will most likely give the money to charity.
But then they personally are the ones giving the money, and choosing where it goes. |

Here's what would make that All-star game interesting to me. Have a couple games where today's stars and alumni in the same game. Just imagine a line with Crosby, Gretzky and Messier up against Towes, Kane and Lemieux and trying to score on someone like Patrick Roy, Martin Brodieur or Carey Price. The game wouldn't be rough but it be cool to see Crosby feeding a pass to Gretzky or vice versa. Most young players would be trying to set up a scoring play for the Alumni guys anyway! I think something like that would be very entertaining. |
