Very little good to take from tonight. Gostisbehere & Medvedev played well, that's about the end of the list.

Hope this doesn't snowball, and hope Luke Schenn isn't out long.

Second line had their second lackluster game in a row possession wise. Figures. For weeks they don't score but make us salivate watching them every shift, every game, dominate possession at a team best rate. Now? They start to score and look bad in the process. Everyone looked turrrible though: all 4 lines. Every d men.

Except Ghost and Medvedev/Bear.

I'd like to see Alt called up if Luke is down for a while.

mason had zero chance to make the save on the 3rd goal. absolute snipe from in close with a slight screen. i still think it may have ticked off del zotto's stick.

bob was simply lucky that laughton couldn't torque that one in behind him. that has to be a goal. and on the read save, sure it was nice, but the dman in the crease chopped down on read's stick just before he got to it, slowing it down and changing direction.

i'm a big bob fan - well documented - but i disagree he outplayed mason. he was barely tested and really got lucky and some help on what should have been 2 more goals. it happens.

outside of med and gost, the team overall was simply horrid.

That 2nd goal was bad. Saw it live 7 rows behind mase I tried to yell to him after laughton deflected it he didn't hear. Mase got crossed up by aJamie Moyer sinker

Yeah, that stuff happens though. The fact that 80% or so of the roster seemed to not bother to show up was much more troubling.

Ghost was good
Medvedev was ok
Mason played well enough to win

The rest?

Just (frank)ing ugly

Laughton's deflection made the puck rise and change angles. Then it may have deflected a second time directly in front because the puck suddenly dipped. Mason had no chance.

On goal 3, it was a tough save -- MDZ was used as a screen, shot was well-placed -- but that was one of those tough momentum saves that Mason himself said a couple weeks ago was one he needs to make himself a little bigger to stop.

Seeing the goals live you really couldn't tell what happened. It looked like Mason just froze. Seeing the replays I can see easily what happened. The Flyers needed those saves, but frankly I don't see them being made by 90% of the goalies in the league at this time.

The bigger issue is once again not beating a team with a sub 500 record. Coming out flat. Playing stationary hockey for too many stretches.

..... and Umberger actually looked lost on his first couple of shifts. Coussins and Leier both looked better. Up on their skates, generating puck movement and drawing penalties.

Nick Schultz has a Teflon suit to a lot of the media, I noticed.

Against the Senators, Medvedev blindly wrapped the puck along the end boards, Ottawa got the turnover, and scored. Medvedev got destroyed by the broadcast team, the intermission guys-Morganti & Boruk-and 80% of the beats on Twitter. He did deserve it.

Last night Schultz did the exact same thing on the second Ottawa goal. Barely got mentioned on Twitter-except by fans. Didn't get his name said on the broadcast or intermission report.

If Nixon got treated as well by Woodward & Bernstein as Schultz does by some of the folks covering the Flyers, his frozen head would still be President.

Umberger did look bad, most of the team did. Rewatching the game, he just didn't have his legs and seemed rusty. Of course he's been out for an extended time, so some of that had to be expected.

On Mason I'm sort of torn. I agree with Bill about the third goal being the kind of momentum save that can turn a team around. I just don't think he had much chance. He was screened, and Foligno fired a bar down lazer beam of a shot. Had Mason made the stop it would have been ten bell larceny.

As far as things that made them lose, Mason's about 10th on the list.

After the vehemence that was shown against Medvedev, it kinda pisses me off that Schultz got a pass

I'm personally more worried about issues being corrected than whether a player is called out by the media. Schultz did the same thing as Medvedev did, made a clear up to a point with no Flyer present. All 5 Flyers were on the same side of the ice. The best thing that could've happened there is communicate to Schultz to either eat the puck, or send up the wall on the same side he was at. There was support there. More importantly, why was the team so flat overall? Both teams played the night before. Columbus was more pissed off from losing the night before I guess. The Flyers overall effort was unacceptable.

Schultz has been very un even this year.....he has never been very good in the offensive zone, but he has had a rough time in his own end this year.
