Obviously the team is missing krejci, but I think the loss of McQuaid has been severely underrated. He might be the best defenseman on the roster at actually defending his own end. Think about it. They need him back.
It's also time to make a trade. We know what this team needs, a top 2 minute eating d man. If Shattenkirk is really available, B's need to make some serious offers. Overpay a little if you have to. I imagine the blues are gonna want futures for him if it's a cap move and the B's have plenty of em right now. A top 6 of chara/shatts seids/colin Krug/McQuaid gets us to the playoffs |

I have to agree. What is the package? 1st, & prospect (Debrusk)
That is similar to what Arizona got for Yandle last season with a year remaining on his contract. I believe it was a 1st & Duclaire. |

Sounds like StL wants scoring help for this year. 1st & prospect is probably a decent start, but they're gonna want immediate help too...any chance StL would believe Connolly will provide scoring help this year? I'm only half kidding, if I'm Sweeney, I'd see if they'd bite...he's still young and inexpensive. Tell them he's been saving all his goals for the 2nd half of the season |

They need to alter their mindset from "How can we not lose this game" to "How can we win this game". Don't sit back and defend. Keep up the pressure. |

Shattenkirk is going to require a player like Pasta.
Seth Jones (young top pairing D-man) for Ryan Johansen (young top line center)
Shattenkirk would likely cost more than Jones...........
So the math would be Pasta (a young scoring winger) is not quite a top line center hence the need for a sweetener, like a second or first.
I wouldn't give up Pasta. We have given up on WAY too many young kids. The idea of doing it again is mind blowing. |

Other assests to get rid of.

You can't be serious, Koko!?!
I'm pretty sure nobody wants him and the blues don't need Subban. |

realistically that could probably get us Dion Pahneuf with Salary retained.... not ideal but not the worst guy to have, he'd probably do much better on 2nd pairing and no C. we could throw seids in for cap balance. we do really need a strong top pairing RH dman. we have C miller and Mcquaid for the 2nd/3rd pairing roles. it's the log jam on the left side that has me worried a bit too. no real answers for who's going to take chara's mins. also morrow's not really getting a fair shake at the moment.
i think DS needs to add insulate the 3rd/4th forward lines with a little more talent too. 4th line is a great energy line and ferraro can find the net so he may work out well with vatrano and spooner.
I still think the B's should see what's up with Braydenn Schenn being on the block. trade Connolly and Koko for him and use him on the wing or C. kids got hustle and can find the net. |

I don't think this team is well built from the aspect of their forward group is fast and play hard but the defense is slow. If you have a forward group that can skate like this group can the defense needs to be able to skate and jump into plays but the B's are caught in no man's land. The defense is skating into plays and by the time they get into the play the puck is going back the other way. Chara is a shutdown defender in his own end because he takes up so much space but once he's in open ice the guy is 7 foot orange cone.
Morrow, Kevin Miller and Trotman are too similar for my liking. McQuaid is in that group too. They don't really compliment each other, they are just the same players.
I think management wants to make the playoffs so they can sell tickets but does this team really have a chance to make a run at a Cup or should they sell a couple pieces here and pick up more assets going forward? I'm of the mentality to sell some pieces.
Shattenkirk is going to get more on the open market than the bruins can offer, every team needs a top 4. |

STL is looking for cap relief to pay Backes. This not comparable to the Johanson/Jones trade. Which was a straight up trade with no prospects, picks or cap consideration and breath of fresh air at that.
Pastrnak is beyond a prospect, would make their roster and will count against their cap taking money away from a deal with Backes.
Both 1sts and Subban or McIntyre(If a prospect is even necessary). Also they probably don't deal Shattenkirk until the offseason as he is locked up 4.25 per until 2017.
EDIT: Also while talking about Shattenkirk is nice...If I am Doug Armstrong I am looking to deal the oft injured Alex Steen and his 5.8 million cap hit and potentially Patrik Berglund's 3.8 cap hit as well. If Fabbri has a good season that's an available center for them as well as Kyle Brodziak for far less money. |

They're pretty thin at goaltender depth. The Subban train has been missed I think. I would shop McIntyre. |

37 points in 32 games in the WHL. (WITH TWO DIFFERENT TEAMS). Maybe he doesn't pan out, but I really want to see Debrusk in a Bs jersey in a couple years. |

Koko is a throw in. There is still some value in him at this time. Subban is hyped up and Allen and Elliot are both good but not consistently great. a 1st, and Morrow who has some upside and is a bit of a risk as a prospect. You don't think that a first, a former first rounder and two decent prospects are enough to land Shattenkirk?

I'm not even that high on zboril. I'd move him. From what I've heard, Lauzons better. I'd put Senyshyn in the untouchable category, not even because of skill but because the heat they took selecting him. They won't trade him |

I get where you're coming from. A lot of promise and the articles I read seemed to elude to the fact that Bruins were impressed with him in camp.
However acquiring a young, legit, and proven top 4 D would help the team out long term as well. The Bruins do not have any of those coming soon as I would hazard a guess Zboril and Carlo are 2 seasons away. That's a long time to muddle with broken down Chara Seidneberg and a bunch of 5-6 guys. |

Forgot about him, thanks. He's another. I would be hoarding D prospects at the moment as they may get a little thinner. Guys like Cross, Breen and Casto are not really making a case and are all at the end of their current deals. |

I think the whole reason Shattenkirk has become a thing is that parayko has been a beast so Stl feels they won't really miss him. Idk if they have that guy to replace Steen and I think they're stuck with Berglund.
I've gotta imagine that Sj pick carries some weight right now. If I'm Don I'm telling Stl, You can have the pick unprotected right now, but if you're gonna wait till the draft and it turns into a top 10 you're SOL. |

I agree the pick may carry more weight at the moment but, I just don't see them dealing Shattenkirk during the season. They're most likely making their annual 1st round bounce this year. It serves them no advantage now to deal him, it actually hurts them.
Also say they do acquire Drouin, that could make Steen expendable. |

I respect your opinion as well. I would just hope to be dealing more expendable assests. If we're trading Debrusk and a Morrow or Subban, I can live with the deal. But if a first is involved, I'm taking out Debrusk.
Maybe they can package Kempainnen? This is all a pipe dream anyways. I do think Don is the man to land us a good top 4. I think all the heat he received this summer was garbage. His Lucic deal was remarkable even if I have to put away my jersey. The Hamilton deal is what it is and I have no problem with it. And the flipping of Jones was nice as well.

Steen has a decent contract and is versatile, but yeah Berglund's contract is too high for him, unless they retain some salary, he could be useful on like a Buffalo or Carolina club
BTW Senyshyn's stats are through the roof too:
GP 38 G26 A11
Point per game player with 26 goals in 38 games on the greyhounds? Not bad at all |
