The NHL's worst stat is shots on goal. |

Re: +/-
Like anything else, James, it's all about context. When a defenseman is -4 in a single game, it's a safe bet he's had a pretty bad night. When a guy is +35 for the season, usually means he's done a pretty good job as a two-way player. That's about as far as it goes though.
It is mostly a useless stat. |

The Panthers are not a "garbage team" by any stretch. Luongo is their MVP but they also have Ekblad, Barkov, Huberdeau who are exactly the caliber of good young players for which you chronically overrate the Oilers. How are they "garbage" and competitive while the Oilers are awesome and chronically in the toilet? |

Edmonton gave Yakupov for Gardiner, Minnesota gave Dumba and a first for Kadri and Nashville gave a first for Reimer.

Yea I would really love to see your explanation of how Florida is a "garbage team." Are they playing a little above their heads right now? Probably. But they are a playoff caliber team without a doubt in my mind, and they are only going to get better if they can continue to fill in talent around their young budding stars. |

I was cracking up at the idea of more than a first round pick for Kadri...then I saw the one about a first rounder for Reimer!!!....
You definitely gave me the laugh of the day. |

It's simple, if you have good goal tending your team is garbage. So 15 playoff teams right now are garbage, minus the Stars. |

First of all, Jim Rutherford is a dinosaur when it comes to GM's, he's slowly gonna destroy that lineup and it doesn't look like they're smart enough to stop him?
Secondly, the whole Luongo, Schneider thing is really silly if you look at the big picture of the franchise. In 2013 you could see this was an aged group with zero push from below coming. Neither of those guys would be helping the current Canucks, with seven players playing their first NHL game this year, become Cup contenders...it was time to turn the page.
Schneider got us Horvat, who looks to be a really good young player, and Luongo got us cap relief and Jacob Markstrom. What they did with the the cap space is irrelevant. Lu is 36 and Schneider is 30 in a few months, as the team transitions to youth I'm glad neither is here to help the team finish 10th to 14th instead of bottom six. |

, trade a first line centre, a first line winger, a starting goalie and a top defensemen, all of whom are in their prime
Jimmy T
Toronto has 2 top line players? A top Defencemen? A starting Goaltender?
Ohh, Please stop... my ribs hurt...
The leafs top 2 forwards would be decent top 6 forward on the majority of teams in the NHL. Even the canucks are lolling at this. We one of the worse teams in the league but Dank + Hank >>> Kadri + JVR, hell I'd go so far as to say Dorsett + Hank > Kadri + JVR
The leafs top defencemen are decent top 6 defencemen, maybe a #4.
Salary aside, in a 7 game series, 30 out of 30 teams would take Nion dion over Gardiner.
Like the Oilers The leafs have a pair of decent Backup goalies.
Again, I'll use one of the worst teams in the NHL, The Canucks Goaltending Markstrome + Miller >>>> Riemer + Bernier |

Respectfully my good man, I do not agree. Everything, literally everything, needs context. A 27 minute D man is more likely to have been on the ice for a couple of those four goals that shouldn't have gone in. He's allowed to let in at least one in that amount of time so a -4 first pairing D man probably plays at least decently more than half the time that occurs.
I see absolutely no value in plus/minus. |

The Panthers are a team with a team with an above average first line, one amazing defenseman and an awesome goalie. After that, they really have one of the worst teams in the NHL. When Luongo plays to his level - as opposed to out of his mind insanely good - they are a borderline playoff team along with Boston, Detroit, Carolina etc.
In fact, I'd say those three teams are actually better than Florida. |

When did Toronto get a first line center and a top defenseman? - Newgod77
If Naz Kadri isn't a top 10 centre, which is debatable, he is for sure a top 30 one and that isn't debatable. When shooting at his career average this year, his even strength production is just outside of top-ten, he is a plus differential at shots, scoring chances, shot attempts and plays good defense.
Minnesota is desperate for a top line centre and deep on defense. They will pick somewhere around 20th. I'd have no problem making the pick lottery protected and it's a pretty fair trade. |
