Its JB's job as GM to keep money in FA's pocket also keeping as much money off the cap in the process. How often do you hear retaining salary on a trade deadline deal? - thundachunk
What your not seeming to understand though, is that if say Hammer gives 4 team list and 3 can't afford him unless we eat salary for the remainder of the season. Is it better to eat salary and barter with 4 teams, or just barter with the 1 that can afford him with no retention? The alternative is that we keep him and FA pays that money out anyways. |

What you're saying is not wrong. I am just saying I'm not into retaining salary. |

I get what you are both saying. I think that Jim Benning doesn't have a choice though with all those crappy deals that Gillis handed out. Jim Benning isn't a master negotiator either with the Dorsett and Sbisa contracts but he is dealing with a pretty crappy salary cap roster. If he has to retain salary to move veterans, I will not be disappointed. |

“Age is a number…The way our bodies feel, for sure, I think we could do it. The only thing that’s different is the travel and back-to-backs wear on you more. When you wake up, you’re more sore. We’ll see what happens, but travel is the one thing that could keep us from playing that long.”
Does that read as "We may play longer if we go to the Eastern Conference" to anyone else? |

TSN1040 reported yesterday Linden was at NHL HQ petitioning for a better travel schedule, and apparently they will have 5 games be their longest next season. I would say his comments are more petitioning for better schedules for Van than going east |

E3 Eklund has Vrbata and Montreal. Taking it all for what it's worth. What's the best Montreal would offer? |

The general rule of thumb is that, if Eklund is reporting it, it has little to no chance of happening. |

Apparently it worked as they wont have a road trip longer than 5 games, but I don't know which is worse for players, making multiple trips of 5 games, or just trying to get the entire east schedule done in 2-3 trips |

Re the Daniel interview.
I read it as favouring the east coast as well due to travel.
Maybe he will follow the Naslund pathway.
Trade to NYR after contract is up.
Reunite with AV. |
