To be honest, most Leaf fans look at it like dodging the "Dave Bolland" bullet. He would have done nothing to improve the D in Toronto.

Anyone who respected* Weber should respect Gorges even more. Because Gorges plays the game with every bit as much character as Weber ever did, but with more talent. He's been a good partner to Risto, a good influence in the room, and a living embodiment of EFF THE LEAFS. I'm perfectly satisfied with him on the roster.

Going forward, I think you hit the nail on the head, Pach: his style of play is one that will lead to injury at his age if he remains in the top 4. We need to find more talented LHD youth for the top 4 quickly.

*NOTE: "respect" does not necessarily = love the outcome of his play.

Gorges may not be Stamkos, but I have a hard time thinking he wouldn't have been better than Corrado, Carrick, Marincin, or Valiev. I understand some of these cats only played 10 games, some 40 or so, but to say he would have done nothing for TOs defense is like saying he didn't do anything for ours...he has.

He's just a defensive defenseman...it seems that the hard working defenders get flack unless they are throwing enormous body checks. That time for Gorgio is done, but I really like what he brings. He was one of the only guys I remember that honestly sounded pissed about how last year went. This guy is a true competitor.

Good leader and Dman also a player that WANTED to sign here, you keep guys like that. Murray has always said he wants players that want to be here, Gorges is one of them.

the butthurt from LaffNation was absolutely hilarious.

If the Sabres don't sign/trade for a #1 dman does McCabe move up to the 1st pairing or would Gorges stay there? McCabe and Bogo had decent chemistry but McCabe seems to have more upside compared to Gorges and playing with Risto could free up McCabe some to get himself better scoring opportunities.

he needs his minutes cut down, IMO he is better logging 18 per game than 24 per game

The comparison would be towards Hunwick, Polak (start of the season), Phanuef (start of the season) Reilly or Gardiner. The kids don't really count because they got ice time because of injuries and trades. I'm not saying Gorges is a bad player but what would he have done to an offensively challenged team bound for last place....? Nothing!
