Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks: Pierre-Luc Dubois and Logan Brown Shine at Draft Combine With the 2016 draft combine complete, it looks like the Vancouver Canucks will have a shot at one of two good players if they want to draft a center. Pierre-Luc Dubois and Logan Brown both showed well in interviews and testing.

What i found interesting was JB said they had their eye on 7 or 8 players at 5OA. Looks like he's accounting for trade scenario's.

I posted this at the end of the previous blog,

it is all so speculative. If JB sees something in a player that others have pegged as going later, are there any scouts on other teams seeing the same thing as JB?

If you really like a player that is media consensus as being a few picks later than you are picking do you trade down? what happens if you trade down and that player you coveted gets snatched before your pick?

Can't wait for draft day.

Thank Carol.

I mentioned in the last blog that Dubois was rated a lot as a winger and imo that leaves Brown as the next true center in the draft. You can't go wrong with either. I would love to be the guy making that decision.

You have too. Anything could happen at 3 to 5. I would not trade down and take the player that caught my eye or try to pry the 2nd overall from Chevy.

I think we pick Brown as if there is one thing I've learned in the last few months it's that Vantel and Benning think alike

Would you trade Sbisa, Pedan and 5OA to Colorado for Barrie and 10OA ?

I wonder if there has ever been a study conducted with respect to how much bloodlines have any impact or affect (if any) on a second generation's player's overall quality. Is it really something tangible or simply a fallacy.

In recent days there seems to have been some merit to it, however, with the likes of second generation players like Max Domi, Mathew Tkachuk, Nylander, Mantha, Kapanen, Reinharts, etc, not to mention previous NHL'ers like Brett Hull, the Sutters, Folignos, Mark Howe, Z Parise, Paul Stastny, who all had fathers who were decent to very good NHLers.

Hence, would bloodlines really be something to keep in mind when drafting? or as indicated, is this simply fishing for any sort of tangible connection?

yes Thunda, that was a good comparison with respect to racehorses and how significant bloodlines are considered within the sport. I thought I would just repost here on the new blog to see if anyone else may have any input on this matter
