I agree with you for the most part Michael. However, Foligno stinks of Drew Stafforditis (playing well contract year, then disappearing). I don't think that Girgs is worth 3 mill. a year, so I would pursue any kind of reasonable trade for him.

point on both is that the czikas contract ups the ante for bottom-six players...y'all can argue the merits of gus and Foligno, but I believe they'll get a contract somewhere in that czikas area...for better or worse

I read that Czikas deal won't affect the bottom six market like people think.

I also don't feel comfortable wasting six million per on two guys who had a combined seventeen goals last season... If they are stubborn and want three million each then trade them for what you can get and sign more proven commodities for three million that actually deserve it.

I think fair deals for both if they were both to resign would be Girgensons 2 years 2.5 per and Foligno 2 years 2.3ish per

I'm a strong believer in the idea that the 4th liners should double as Penalty Killers given that they will usually have fresher legs (from less minutes)

Delorian needs to work with Legwand or O'Riley this summer and learn the PK inside and out...should he do so he will find himself a nice spot on that 4th line for years to come

EDIT: that's why I like Kaleta so much...he was a 4th liner who was money on the PK

hope you're right and they can get both for $5m/season...nothing longer than two-year contracts

solid thinking, yet i'm always taken back to preseason when the sabres went on a five-game shortie streak...no reason why they can't have skilled players manning the pk...o'reilly's one already, throw in jack and kane, a little gus and marcus and you have a pk unit that could be a threat to score

I definitely enjoy a nice short-handed goal here and there...but I get nervous putting Jack in a position where he may have to block a Chara or Subban one-timer

It sounds awful...but losing a 3rd or 4th liner is nothing compared to Jack or O'Riley or Kaner goin down

I'd be on board with those contracts, otherwise get rid of both of them.

Im still bitter about them not considering moving #8 for a player. (per the clown)

It got me thinking as to what their plans are.

One of Ennis, Foligno and or Girgensons would have to be moved in a package to get a Fowler type.

Stamkos

Vesey?

Yandle?

I still think both of these guys have more to offer than what we saw last year. I'd be comfortable in the $2-3M range for short bridge contracts only. You are correct that closer to $2M is what they "deserve".....but they also have the argument that they out-produced Moulson and look what he's being paid. Moulsons contract will affect what these guys want more than some 4th liner Joe Schmo from a different team.

Would have to find a taker . And then want what they are offering .

Just not that simple .

I like your logic on all of the above. However, I think $3 million per for Girgs/Foligno is undeserved. Somewhere in the $2.25 to $2.5 range - for 2 years each. I still see Girgenson's in that 3rd line centre/wing role replacing Gionta after this season.

If GMTM needs to use either/both as part of a trade to get a #2 D or top 6 winger, I am totally fine with that option as well.
