Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks: Targeting Ty Ronning, Info on Expansion Draft Rules As things currently stand, the Vancouver Canucks could have a tough time drafting local player Ty Ronning, and more information comes to light on a possible 2017 expansion draft.

So, expose Hank and Dank? Expect LV not to take 1 Sedin. You can only lose 1 player. So why would LV take half of the duo?

Also, they'd likely be targeting younger talent. (assumed)

To me, this expansion draft seems rigged

Basically Las Vegas will get the "pick of the litter" of every teams, youth, depth and "value talent"

No elite players, but they will surely leave themselves enough capspace to sign a few big names, they'll inevitably have a first year high draft pick, and they can fill out the rest of their roster with the best depth the league has to offer

Keep in mind they only need 18 players and can poach from 30 teams

Ty would be an immediate fan favourite. Even before putting a Canuck uni on. Hopefully JB can find another pick (2nd or 3rd round). You would think the team would prefer to use their 3rd on a dman. But what could we trade? Hansen is too valuable to move. Especially if Canucks are targeting Eriksson (looking to push for playoffs). Having a solid 1st line would allow Hansen to play with Horvat.

Trickle down effect. A healthy Sutter and Guddy in the fold. VAN projects to be a lot better than last year....

Thanks you Carol

I will say now I hate expansion. To many teams are not competitive enough as it is and it just waters down the league even more. I don't even see how it is good for revenue. I feel moving a team that can't keep their building full to a better environment is a better option at this point.

Carolina couldn't even keep the Hornets there. This is just one team that comes to mind. There are quite a few more.

Words like respect, character, and tradition are thrown around a lot in the NHL. I think JB and Trevor are trying to rebuild the roster and the team's reputation.

The scenario you described above would not help that reputation. If canuck management did that they would look like idiots.

You think? Some would argue the league is already watered down. If you look at the history of expansion teams they seem to suck for many years before they become competitive.

So we have lost 10 consecutive trades with Florida...anyone else thing our luck is about to change? Eric G will be a number two Dman for us by the 2017 season

Benning......

Trades his 2nd round pick, then talks about trading down in the 1st (and getting an inferior player) so he can recoup a 2nd round pick (which likely wouldn't be as high as the one he just gave up)

Considering the situation between Bure and the canucks, I didn't have a problem with Bure for Jovo and a 1st.
Unfortunately, the canucks (once again) picked poorly but it was a bad draft class anyway, especially at #23.

I cant wrap my head around that either, 31 teams is just off, unless they plan on going to 31 an expansion if not needed, I agree 100% carolina should be on the move

I also remember something about wanting a t6 player as well. I took that as 5OA for a 1st(likely has to be t15 unless...)2nd, top6 player(...this is a higher end t6 player making it worth going lower)

IF TB offered it, I would consider Drouin+27+44+57. Drouin needs to grow up..but he will still be an elite 1LW player.

I know they wouldn't. But this is the type of deal that would get me to move down. Drouin had a great playoffs, but I don't see his stock rising too high due to his previous antics.

We got rid of Lou's contract (for the most part) and got Marky. I'll consider that a massive win for Van.

Its amazing to note that Jovo didn't even start playing until he was in grade 7.

We still have 800k of it. Also if he retires early we are screwed.
