Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Close to Re-Signing Jacob Markstrom, Development Camp As word trickles out that the Canucks are on the verge of signing goaltender Jacob Markstrom to a contract-extension, forward Alexis D'Aoust, defenseman Troy Stecher and goaltender Thatcher Demko command attention at the team's Development Camp in Shawnigan Lake.

@ Lefty from the previous blog.

Vrbata scored 13
Vey 4
McCann 9
Hamhuis 3
Cracknell 5

That's 34 goals right there they have to find, sure Eriksson will go a long ways to helping that, but they'll still have trouble scoring more than 200 goals IMO.

Will Daniel get 28 again, even odds, will Hansen get 22 again, highly doubtful with him not on the Sedin line, Virtanen should get 8 more, Baertschi should get 5 more.

I went through projected scoring in a previous blog and indicated that the Canucks forwards will score 196 goals this season versus 150 last year. Our upgrades on our D will easily replace the lost Hamhuis and Bartowski offense and I am not worried about replacing Vey and Crackenell's production

Hopefully they get Markstrom signed and let him take over this year or as the New Year approaches. Trade Miller at the deadline for ANYTHING Jim

Next summer sign a middling goaltender for two years and expose him.

I agree on Vey and Cracknell, but goals are goals. I still find it hard to believe they're gonna score more than they scored last year, truthfully, I'm more worried about them defending better than scoring more.

As an example, Anaheim only scored 27 more goals than the Canucks, but they ALLOWED 51 less goals. That's where you're going to see a difference in terms of competing for a playoff spot.

Calgary scored 40 more goals than us but they allowed more, how did that work out for them?

I got a bad feeling that if they gave loui 6 years and will probably extend the twins past 2018, then miller might be extended as well.

Well I agree that they need a much better goal differential to make the playoffs, whether that comes from improved defense or scoring. I am surprised you don't think they will score more. They lost Vrbata and brought in Eriksson. Not to mention continued growth from JV, Bae and Bo. Seems like a lock for me.

No….he's one of the teams best defenders because he transitions the puck to the forwards so well and he's a shot suppressor. The fancy stats show that. Is he flashy, no, but he's certainly effective!

It has to be both, you can't do it without being better at both.

Tanev had no physical presence or component to his game. He can't get a puck through to the net from the point. He is reliably average.

If they added a feature for "season pass holders", or w/e it is called on this site, to allow you to block posts from certain people. I think I would subscribe.

He is the most reliable defender we have. Physicality doesn't make a defenseman better, and we aren't relying on him to score. He prevents more goals while on the ice than any defenseman on our team, and almost all the defenseman in the league.

If all that is true then he is good trade material. We can get a solid young player back plus a 2nd or 3rd rounder back.

To me that would be best case scenario. The absolute best.

I think injuries are going to wreak havoc again.

How is that best case scenario? You don't think the young players will improve at all? They peaked at age 20? You feel confident the season will be ruined by injuries? wtf is going on? Tuesday?
