You talk about anchors basically every article and Jooris is one of the biggest anchors on the flames. He is taking up a spot that someone like Shinkaruk could come in and fill. Jooris had 1 ok season and then his true colours shined last season. He has hit his peak and will be a player who bumps around the league the rest of his career.
Im glad hes gone. |

Here we go, Paul Byron 2 I get to listen to over & over & over & over. Would have been nice to keep him but he is a depth player. We have several 1st rounders like Janko, Poirrer, Klimchuk, Shinkaruk that need a chance. You can only have so many players on the big club. Jooris wasn't drafted, but a Free Agent signing out of college. These type of players can be found again. I liked Jooris, just like I liked Byron & Im glad they landed with another team & hope they do well. Perspective Todd. |

with 14mil left, not like they could have signed him with JG/money left
Money better spent on filling injuries during the year. let Shink/poirier/janko take a shot

We saw how good Jooris could be. Shame he couldn't get back to form. He could have grown into a 2nd line role if he got his confidence going again.
Here's hoping he fits better in the Eastern Conference.
He had a tough year in a depth role and found himself doghoused at times. Saw that happen with a few players last year.. |

I think that's overly optimistic since people on this site argue frolik and brower are fringe second liners.
he replaced byron as the heart player we enjoyed seeing play. someone else will step up and take that role this year. Not sure who this years "Johnny on the spot" will be though |

Try not to let people affect your perspective so much. Some people on here have no concept for player development.
Technically Byron and Jooris were the heart player we loved seeing play in the same year. Then they both went to Therrien's and Hartley's doghouses the next year. Lol
I liked Hathaway in that role last year, but then Keith broke his wrist on an uncalled slash.

Your reaching, dude. I agree with Numbear, Jooris is not a 2nd liner. Not in any way. He's bottom 6, no better. Thinking otherwise is foolish. |

So, I guess we should not expect to see anything more from him than he has already shown. Too bad, but with our BRUTAL penalty kill unit last year, he should prove useful enough. I don't suppose he could win a draw at any point, eh? I think our top faceoff guy is well below 50%. That really hurts on the PK. |

We have had too many "character" guys filling spots and playing roles above their paygrade (and skill level). I liked Jooris but he was another fringe player taking up a roster spot that should have gone to one of our young guys.
Analytics don't tell the whole story and those fixated on pure stats miss the point of this game. |

no i get the player development. thats why I think you are shooting high as a 2nd line considering the team make up, other players and what I see as jooris's strengths.
He wouldn't get the chances he would need to become that 2nd line player in calgary. I think they have young players that have a higher ceiling then him that would benefit more of those development minutes (shink, poirier, janko, and at the time granlund). so he had to go. |

Servicable character guy with a bit if upside. he'll sit in the shadows... not a bad signing but temper expectations. |

really if he was put on a line with two better players, you'll see more points. He's not going to increase a lines production right off the bat
But he will put in the effort, he will help PK, and hustle. |

Meh, the flames wanted to add depth RW and had to give up a depth C to do it. Jooris is 26 so I have a hard time believing there's much upside left. As far as Johnny and Monahan, we must be due for something on that front. |

Agreed. It's a shame but he wasn't getting the opportunity here; just like Granlund. |

that sums it up. and with brouwer we have a more experienced "character" player that is going to eat up minutes above his level if he sees the 1st line.
I think Jooris's pay check went there.
we upgraded from a 3rd/4th liner that can sneak into a 2nd line with a lot of heart. to a 2nd/3rd liner that might have to do time on the 1st against big teams with heart and playoff experience.

so are we really just waiting for Money, JG and wotherspoon to sign? and then roster is basically set for core people?
I assume F.Hamilton will just sign and be a good AHL piece this year. Chiasson bumped him and hathaway down |
