Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks: Manny Malhotra On Fishing Trip—Will He Reel in a Job? Former Vancouver Canuck and NHL faceoff ace Manny Malhotra has joined the team for its annual fundraising fishing trip to Haida Gwaii this week.

Thanks Carol.

Agree 100% that I'd love to see the Canucks give Malholtra a shot at Face-off coach. Canucks need to be a puck-possesion team to succeed, and have never really been as good at that since Malholtra got injured.

Manny deserves a shot at it anyway.

It be great to get him down in Utica before Green takes off. Maybe he could step in for him when he eventually leaves.

I thought that Assistant Coach Doug Jarvis was a super faceoff expert. Would Manny be redundant if Jarvis can help in the faceoff department?

Jarvis was a defensive forward as a player. His playing career was over so long ago I have no idea if he took faceoffs or not.
But in his coaching career he was a defensive systems coach and ran special teams or other teams. I have never heard of him schooling players on faceoffs...

Manny has played in todays nhl so it makes perfect sense and I'd suggested this very move over 6 months ago

However we already have a guy who was super in faceoffs too in Linden....dont see him coming down to show the guys how to do it.

There has been some discussion in the past about how Manny would be a great addition to the Canucks' coaching staff, particularly with an eye toward acting as a faceoff tutor.

Because he only really has one that works, right?

While it's a nice gesture, I am not sure the organization wants to pay another salary for a pretty limited coaching role. I am sure Jarvis can handle the task. If not, I will do if for cheap

I agree 100%, what would the downfall be of bringing him on board, there isn't one

okay, I know this is a hockey board, but if anyone needs a new laptop for a son or daughter, etc.. I just picked one up for <$200 taxes included. pm me for the link, hopefully the store doesn't clue into the pricing error. (Intel Quad Core 11.6" WXGA 2GB 32GB Win10)

The downfall is there may be less $ to spend in other more important areas. this is a business and all businesses have budgets.

Then fire the sleep doctor or bring in 5 more hotdog features, with FA and his desire to win, wallet may be open a little more

That's fair.

Honestly liked Manny and was glad the Canes gave him a shot. He clearly became less and less effective as the season went on, though.

Along with his linemate, Radek Dvorak.

It will be interesting to see what Jarvis brings.

From what I understand he hasn't actually been behind the bench since his days as a head coach with Montreal's affiliate in the AHL. He has primarily been a video and eye in the sky coach I believe until last year when he was given PP duties for Boston, which clearly didn't go very well if he was let go.

As far as I'm aware he has never run the defense and that will still be Lidsters role.

Re: pricing error

I got 2 loafs of bread for 8 cents on the weekend cuz of a pricing error. Unit price was way off... Noticed it and got the deal. Organic bread btw.
