Vancouver can't score but I doubt he could fix that. |

Last I heard he was struggling to keep up in the K, his stats don't show it though. |

Wasn't Kovalchuk the big name beside Dany Heatley on the Atlanta Thrashers?
Heatley is retired. The Thrashers are long gone.
Why does anyone think this guy has something left to contribute?

Kovy is 33. If he didn't leave, he was under contract until 2026. Without a doubt he can still play in the NHL, at worst a 2nd liner. The only questions are around money and attitude. |

Ek: I thought he needs to take a year off from hockey first or be unanimously approved to re-enter? If so, I thought NJ had first crack at him. Did these stipulations change?

All teams would have to unanimously approve his return and he'd have to wait a year from the end of his current deal. So he'd be 34 until he can return me thinks.
Not sure if Devils would have first choice or not. |

IF he wants to return now he needs all NHL teams to approve it, but as of April 2018, he is free to sign with anyone. I don't think the Devils have any first rights to him. HOWEVER, the NHL league offices made comments at the end of last season which indicated they may get involved in how this plays out. They were not specific as to what that might be but that the Devils would seem to deserve something. It could be prioritization to sign him or some type of minor compensation (a pick) if another team signs him... but that is speculative and it seems like a bit of headache for the league. |

Why would the Habs even consider messing with their core? How does signing an over the hill Kovalchuk help the Leafs rebuild? What would Kovalchuk consider appealing in NJ?
I'll give ya weak "I guess... maybe..." to the San Jose, LV options but the rest of the "Top 5" just sounds silly

Kovalchuk has the worst attitude, and any team wanting to win should stay away!
I'll never forget the last Olympics when Canada beat Russia and instead of shaking hands and staying on the ice for the winning teams national anthem, he lead all the pouty Russians off the ice immediately after the final whistle. Of course Malkin, Ovechkin and other NHLers stayed on the ice, which just exemplified his piss pour team mentality.
If he comes back to the Nhl, I guarantee he female doges out and bails on the team after 1 year. Who tf wants that?
