I was at the game. I've been going to the avs games for 20 years and that was the greatest open ice hit I've ever witnessed. Zadorov - Avsrchamps01
is it too early to call Zadorov "Scott Stevens Jr." ?
but you make a very valid point. I think besides Rob Blakes hip checks and some of Footes corner crushes, the Av'ies havent had a bonafide terror on defense. someone that legit makes opponents double check their moves or attack on the ice. I mean just look at Laine last night just tossing the puck down the ice instead of attacking the zone cause it was on Zads side.
book it, next year people are going to start talking about how lopsided the O'Reilly trade was in regards to the Avalanche getting a prime time stud Dman and several offensive pieces.

He's only got about 900 points, 3 rings, a Conn Smythe and a handful of 60 point seasons to go, but sure.
In all seriousness, no, not a slight towards Zadorov, but the NHL won't let that happen as evidenced by the call on him yesterday for a perfectly legal check. Two years from now the NHL will be a non contact league.

I merely meant in terms of his open ice hitting ability and being a player that other guys gripe and fear about being on the ice against. Stevens was an absolute beast and I would so love it if Stevens were coaching this guy.
sadly you make a valid point about the NHL slowly getting to the point of eradicating the "violent hits" from the game as they're doing w fighting. so lets enjoy Killer Zaddy while we can

To think that we are sitting here discussing this hit like Zads has reinvented hitting.
20 years ago those types of hits happened 5 or 6 times a week. I never want to go back to the hooking/holding NHL that slowed down the game, but I miss the days of hitting and physicality.
Every time someone bumps a player now it turns into a scrum. It's a joke, learn to take a hit.

I'm just impressed with his technique. hes a big man and to keep compact, elbow tucked in, not leaving the feet trying to explode someone. He really just is dump trucking guys.
Now with Andrei Mironov coming over next season (rumoured) Avs could have 2 big, good skating russians who can bulldoze you....he likes to do the kronwall low bridge ass out hit, but gotta keep your head up knowing that Mironov is around

please dont piss on the happy parade. as I've said, Colorado hasnt had a player of this caliber since maybe Blake or Foote. you got spoiled w near 20yrs of Scott Stevens, let us enjoy this bit of sunshine
while I agree that players stopping the game to huddle together and have an adult discussion over what clean hit occurred, I think its more a formality otherwise pundits and fans will start groaning about how the team didnt stand up for their player blah blah blah

Any chance we ever see this guy at the NHL level
- Mr.Bobby
sadly I dont think so, not with t he Avs. I would love to see him get his chance but he might just be what he is, a good AHLer but just not good enough to take someones NHL job in a depth position.
Hes still mean and can skate really well so someone should give him a shot, he can keep up to the NHL game

I find it odd though from being one of the worst teams on the defensive side we arent willing to at least give Siemens a shot. Drafted first round, good skater, shut down guy who will stand up for his teammates? Isnt this the player were looking for?
Hopefully after the deadline he'll get the call

I feel like I've heard this idea before.... like 4 or 5 times before.
