No real reason to trade anyone unless it's an overpayment..
And even then.. is it worth pissing off your fan base atm to move a core player people love? Hmm.. Not in my eyes..
Sure, we could get a nice package deal back that could help us down the line.. but we're still w/o one of our beloved players......
We still have kids up and coming.. compher.. greer.. jost.. Rants.. Mack.. Duchene.. Landeskog.. Barrie.. Ej..Zadorov... Bigras...Picks.. Martin...others...
Can't we build around that?? I mean.. hell... Whatever I guess... NOW NOW NOW. Not like if we trade Duchene or Landeskog and get a package back.. we're contending anytime soon...

I think we will be in contention sooner than most people think. I would not trade Duchene unless it's for a MASSIVE overpayment on some other team's behalf ( a ridiculous crazy offer that we cannot refuse) He's taken the bridge deals to prove himself, he's taken the hometown discount, he's acted like a pro when trade rumors started swirling around him. He should not be punished for handling himself the right way throughout his entire career. If you trade someone, trade Landeskog and Barrie. Not Duchene. I would make Duchene the next captain of the team. |

I think we already are built 75% around that and look what we got.... I agree though a massive overpayment would be the only reason for a trade before the deadline, iginla will move and maybe a few small peices but i think thats it barring the motherload. There's a lot to look forward to in off season, contracts expiring, first round pick, free agency money etc. They know an overhaul is needed, lets see if they can turn this ship by next season. |

Its actually pretty easy. If the trade makes the Avs better then Sakic will do it.
By better I mean that right now we have some players like Duchene and Gabe who are elite players in their prime, on long term deals. The only downside is that the Avs are not a contending team and wont be for at least one more season.
So if by trading them Sakic can get back multiple, young, high level players, especially on wing and defense then the team may be better off doing so. However the amount of development a players still needs holds risk of uncertainty of what they will become thus any deal with those players would require something extra.
He isn't looking to make a trade, but if there is one that can make his team better, he will.

I think there is merit for trading all 3.
Duchene is the oldest of the 3 players so will has the smallest window of the 3 left in their primes, is the best player of the 3 so he would return the most but really the main factor is the Avs are likely to have 2 replacements for him in the system with Jost and the 1st rounder this year (all the top 4 players are centers).
So while he may certainly be the most loved, he is possibly the most likely to be moved. |

Teams will be most desperate to make a deal at the TDL, thus it will be the highest chance a team gives up a package they normally wouldn't due to pressure on the team to win the cup.
At the draft teams have more options as its easier to work around the cap, they know the exact locations of where teams pick and if the trade happens during the draft sometimes the exact player they will get with a pick that is part of a deal.
Different options for different moments, but there is no telling which will return the highest value. All that matters is you know what you are looking for so you can pounce on the opportunity should it arise and not a moment sooner. |
