We may have to "suffer" another year, however I'm all for purging the team of the dead weight.
Not sure if we'll have the $$$ for the Shattenkirk's of the NHL going into next season.

But the number one goal this offseason for GMTM should be removing all the dead weight by any means necessary.

And if you're right, and all this happens, is this a playoff roster?

That's the major question. We don't know.

It's not even are they a playoff team, it's are they a cup contender, which is what we suffered for

I like the exercise, Pach, but there's something about Shattenkirk that doesn't give me the hip hip hooray.

Also, as far as the blog goes, I think Reinhart gets 5-5.5 on a bridge, and Lehner get's a bridge as well. Those short term deals, along with McCabe's, will eventually be raised.

Minus 4-5 pieces of dead weight and add 2 middle pairing on defense who can hod their own, and this is definitely a playoff team.

Unless they play hardball, I can see $5M being the number for Sam after next season, especially if he improves like I think he will.

As far as the roster Pach laid out, I just don't trust Kane enough to not revert to his past to give him any kind of long term deal, even if said deal was 'only' at $6M per.

Unless there is a miracle, I don't think there is any way they can truly be a contending team with Bogo anywhere but the bottom pairing.

I don't either, but I also think it's tough to walk from this current production.

I'd still trade him if a top 3 D man is available, because wingers are moved every single year and we will find another one.

I hope they don"t go after Shattenkirk. He is a younger version of Franson. Third pair power play specialist who is not defensively responsible. 7 mil a year is reserved for top pair, play in any situation, shut down defensman. I belive he was hovering around negative 17, while playing for the blues this year. Yikes!

i mean, hes -1 now so either hes had just some kind of incredible week+ with the caps or....


And yea i guess hes like franson except for the part where shattenkrik can actually skate...and pass...and i dont think he even saw that much powerplay time with the blues.
