I'm strongly considering trading Simmonds if I'm Hexy this summer

My reasons
1. He's 3 years older than Schenn and is soon going to command more money/term than him for doing similar things.
2. He has a much higher trade value than Schenn coming off 2 years of 30 plus goals. Plus all the intangible crap you can sell.
3. The glut of RW on this team. Schenn can slot in at RW which is where he has looked his best.
4. Lindblom's game is excellent in and around the net, and he would be more dangerous having the puck on his stick down low on the PP

I can see a case for staying status quo and letting things shake out one more year. But Simmonds value will not be any higher

That is an incredibly bold and risky move, and Hextall is a safe guy by nature. I struggle to see him doing it, and I honestly expect him to just get re-signed eventually. Trading a player who is in his prime, one of the few goal scorers on a goal scoring inept team; and a player right at the heart and soul of the team, intangibles galore, is a difficult, painful move. I actually expect no moves this offseason for core players. Giroux and Voracek aren't being traded, so the only two available would be Schenn and Simmonds. He wouldn't have gotten Filppula for 1 season effectively to just sell other pieces and maybe take a step back.

I don't disagree with you, even if it would pain me to see him go; I just doubt that it happens. Simmonds is the most valuable trade piece on the entire team, due to ability, contract, intangibles, etc. He's the only player who could return a massive haul akin to Carter/Richards. We aren't competing, beyond being bubble team, the next 2 years most likely. At that point, he needs a big contract at age 31. It'd be our chance to get an elite young player (with a + even) that could set this team up long-term. Just seems too high risk/high reward for Hextall. Wouldn't shock me, if like many here, he sees him as one of the few non-culpable players on the roster.

When your top 4 players in scoring are a combined -88, it's time to make a move within that group . No excuses for this.
Let's just hope Hextall addressees this group in off season

Sure! Lets exploit the growing market for underperforming players making over 8 million a year and pawn one of our guys off on some unsuspecting schlub in another town!

I agree with the premise and reasoning behind trading Simmonds. I just have doubts he will fetch the player needed.to make the deal.

Package a bunch of mid round picks and McDonald to Vegas for cap relief. Resign Simmonds, strip the C off Giroux and give it to Simmonds. Goodbye Schultz, goodbye DelZotto, goodbye Vandevelde. Bring up the kids and lets get this rebuild going before it is too late for the veterans here.

I would probably look at Giroux this offseason. I know the optics of a Giroux deal won't look great. The Nash deal didn't bring back a sexy package but it did bring depth and allowed for them to make future moves.

I know he looks better right now but it wasn't hard to get do that when he was playing so bad. I am just not as optimistic as others that we will see this big rebound in the future from him.

THIS!!

If we had done this before the start of the season there is a very real chance we could have won the Super Bowl.

No, Brady would've deflated our pucks, Belicheck would've stolen our pre game line combos and then pilfered Vandevelde for a 4th round pick and developed him into an All-Star.

Yes strip the C from Grioux...fixes so many of the problems on this team...

Up until recently makes Coots not have a disappointing season.
Certainly would make Schenn more consistent.
Without a doubt makes both goalies not suck for most of the season..
100% makes Jake actually do something other than skate really fast up the wing.

A stellar defensive team like Winnipeg will lock you down from time to time. It happens.

More bad puck luck.

Time to head to Minnesota.

Voracek has got the skate the puck down the boards and behind the net maneuver down pat. He needs to be much better than he has been.

I don't think there is a chance they trade Simmons. His value is too high for the amount he is paid. Additionally, looking up and down the lineup the team has shot below their historic shooting percentage for almost every player...I am not sure if it is the system or the lack of more puck moving Dmen...but something is off with the team this year.

You can still pay Simmer when it comes time, but he will be 30 then and there should be money from Read or other expiring contracts that can go to simmer while the young guys continue to come up through the system.

I think what does have to change is the supporting coaching staff for Hak. He needs to get his guys in there...keeping the other guys for one year was fine...but it has not panned out for the PK.
