I'm glad Willie is gone as well! It was clearly evident he did not want any part of a rebuild, he wanted to win and compete, wrong man for the job at the wrong time. |

I have a feeling Willie might end up in Dallas as Hitchcock's associate HC.
Hitch had hinted at retirement before the current season, and I don't imagine him sticking around more than another year or 2, tops. Willie could learn from him, and be in a position to take over in the near future. It would let Hitch be more of a strategist and let Willie run practices.
I think it would be a good situation for The Stars, Willie and Hitch. |

Do you think Dallas is going to pay Willie head coaching money to be an assistant? With another year on his deal, why would he rush?
Outside of the current openings in LA, FLA, and LV, Paul Maurice will be on the hot seat right away next year, Tippet should be, and anyone of Hynes, Hakstol, Bednar, Blashill could also be |

The more i think about it, the more Gallant makes sense. He has experience bringing up a young team. He did good work with Barkov, Ekblad, Bjugstad, etc. And he has experience with EG(something Benning needs to work out). |

@SMBDragon
From the last blog.
The reason that i keep asking You which coach you think would get this roster into the playoffs is because you keep answering yes, several, without actually giving out a name or two.
So I'll ask again, which available coach do you think could make this team a contender and why? |

I don't think he'd turn down an opportunity for a bit more money.
He's in the same boat as Mike Yeo was a year ago, and that's gone pretty well for Yeo.
Plus Hitchcock has always had a high priced assistant or 2, because he's not physically able to get on the ice and run a practice. The Stars know what they're in store for and still "Hitched" their wagon to their former coach. |

Please stop stroking it to people hitting the unemployment line, it's uncouth and unbecoming of a man of your stature.

No one they draft is going to make the club IMO so hold on to the thought that this team will be full of replacement level players again next year with around a 70 point season.
Whomever they hire as a coach has to be onboard with the teaching mentality with young players and have a lot of patience. |

Elliot's 30 Thoughts Column:
14. Vancouver is an interesting one. On the weekend, there were rumours the Canucks would not consider experience as the most important factor when deciding upon a new head coach. It's something Trevor Linden confirmed on Monday. That’s good news for Travis Green. The organization knows one thing: they will lose Green if they don’t hire him. His contract is up and he won’t be returning to AHL Utica.
Green did arguably his best coaching job there this past season. The Canucks were decimated by injuries, it affected his AHL roster and he still got it into the race. I’m told that internally Linden recognizes the NHL team did not provide enough support to its American League partner, and will change that. If Green does not get an NHL job, he may have a European option.

Thats my choice. I wonder if they could get Green as an assistant. That be a nice combo. |

Yeah I was thinking what the Canucks could offer, but sounds like they want impact players and not picks. We really only have 1 of those right now |

18. One name to watch this off-season: Carolina’s Noah Hanifin. He played at least 20 minutes in 10 of the Hurricanes’ last 11 games (and came in at 19:58 in the other). I think Carolina would consider moving him if — and only if — an impact offensive forward was coming to Raleigh. So, don’t come at them with weak sauce. They are one of the few teams that could even consider this, because they have blue-line depth. But, Hanifin has a long, prosperous career ahead of him, and they will not trade him just for the sake of it. |

I dont want any player from this draft to start on the big club next season. Hopefully they learned from the Mccann and JV disaster.
Keep in mind that Nolan and Nico are probably similar to Dubois and Puljarvi in terms of quality and would be walking in to a tire fire type situation next year. Zero reason for them to be on the team next season.

Ya I know. Maybe they bite on a future number 1 center. This being a weak draft and us desperately needing top pairing dmen this might be a good move. It then allows us to easily deal Edler and Tanev.. |
