I like Alzner but he is going to get massively overpaid

Can't say I've seen a ton of Alzner, heard that he had a bad year this year. What's his deal? Defensive specialist or more offense? Nothing about his stats make him stand out very much...Also, and not that I really want them to sign him, but wouldn't Shattenkirk make more sense as their number one target?

The Blues don't need another LW.

They need a top center (Duchene or the like) and more solid RW depth.

Outside of Tarasenko the next true RW they have is Ryan Reaves.

Unless SJ doesn't offer Thornton a deal, no way he goes to a team that isn't a legit contender. Joe wants a Cup. Period. He isn't going to a sign a one year deal with a rebuilding team unless that's his ONLY option, which it won't be. Red Wings... pfft. Stars? Maybe.

Thornton gets to veto any trade to a non-contender, giving him a huge say in where he goes. Meaning he gets to decide in February which teams look appealing.

Crap team gets assets for trade.

Contending team gets Thornton, but since it is in February, it's easier to fit him under cap.

Everyone goes home happy.
