Sigh. Knowledgeable Flyers fans want Mason resigned.

I'd also love the Jets to sign Mason but I think Neuvirth will be left unprotected ( they will opt to proect the younger Stoloraz ) and Vegas will claim Neuvirth and then Mason will re-sign in Philly. |

I know the stats show him to be a capable netminder, but optically his game seems to have many holes. I do not see Mason as the answer in Calgary. |

You mean except for his model wife who has been on record saying she doesn't want to live in Canada and prefers the west coast ? |

I think Calgary like Winnipeg have good young goalies coming up and really only need a guy to step in for a year or two. |

have to love these model wives who think thier Husbands are all the greatest ever and just assume they will have all these offers and can decide where they want to live. Must be nice living that clueless. |

I wouldn't mind CGY trying something like trading down from our #16 OA and a mid prospect to get Raanta, #21 and perhaps a 2nd rounder from NYR or something similar. |

Todd Cordell: Steve Mason an ideal solution for the Calgary Flames - ToddCordellCGY
Sounds an awful lot like the Elliott discussions we had prior to his signing. Meh, all of the options being discussed seem to be in the well based on his stats he (should) be an upgrade... Take out the obvious in MAF, IMO we either go big and put together a (real) option for the Devils involving out 1st round plus a tendy prospect (+?) for Schneider, resign Elliott (as it costs us nothing outside salary) or look at taking a chance on a Raanta (or similar). |

Can Hextall still play?

I'm all for bringing in as many former London Knights as possible.
Imagine Gagner replacing Brouwer on the powerplay with Mony and Gaudreau.
@TandA
Wouldn't be against trading down if we still got Popugaev. That kid is lethal. We would have to add if we want that sort of return though.. |

Worth noting that Elliott put up those stats on a defensively strong Blues team. The Flyers defense that Mason played behind would not be described as such. |

Goaltending stats are waaaaaay to subjective. Its kind of my point. I don't mind Mason but does he cost more than re-signing Elliott and does he give us better goaltending? |

Don't really want to give up our third in a good draft to re-sign a goalie that can't steal a game..
Mason will probably want 3-5 years though..
If only we could keep our picks and just do Grabauer or Raanta for Kylington. |

Giving up a 3rd for the privilege to re-sign the goalie that blew it big time at the start of the season and in the playoffs would be a kick in the nads |

Every Flyers fan seems to assume this too. It really doesn't matter what he will want because it is a huge buyers market. He doesn't have many places to be a #1 and even if he wants a 3-5 year deal, it won't be at a high cap hit because his name/reputation and last season's performance seem to be negatives on his value. |

So you'd rather trade a highly skilled, near NHL ready dman (who slipped down to us from the top 15 of a stacked draft) just so we can hold on to a friggin 3rd rounder?
C'mon, if we're going to trade one of our best prospects we better be 100% sure we're getting a starter out of the deal. Not everyone's back-up is going to turn into a Talbot or Kipper. |

I am a Mason fan but I agree with others he will not be a great solution in Calgary.
He does have consistency issues and "holes" in his game per say.
Elliot is obviously the best goalie available for Calgary besides MAF IMO.
Elliot was much better for the Flames than most here realized. He took a young and often "loose" team to the playoffs. Where honestly they shouldn't have been. |

So bring in Mason who had a poor year last year and almost the exact same season as the season Elliott just had that has everyone not wanting to bring him back? What did Elliott do last year? Poor start, unreal finish to the season to get his team in the playoffs, pooed on himself in the playoffs. What did Mason do two years ago? Poor start, unreal finish to the season to get his team in the playoffs, pooed on himself in the playoffs.
How does it make any sense to sign him over Elliott considering Mason is probably looking for a bigger number and longer term. |

That may be one of your most retarded posts ever. Why would you give up a very highly regarded prospect for a prayer in a back up goalie? If we move Kylington it better be as a package to get someone like Cory Schneider. Given the situation (exp. draft) those teams risk losing those guys for nothing. So why offer up a top prospect who has 2 years in the AHL already as a 19 year old. You do realize we gave up 2 3rd rnd picks in a deep draft to get him, right? |
