Thanks Carol. Guddy contract is a good show me. If they don't have an extension in place by TDL he'll fetch good value from a contender.

It's firm they take time on Bo. No rush and pressure to lock up with top $. If you notice beyond LE hickup and Sutter overpay there are no players locked up long term. For a rebuilding team that wants to change its future it's important to not over commit to who they have now.

Pass. But if they are kind enough to take Sutter rather have a prospect and draft pick.

Glad to see Benning is learning. Show me contract was his only reasonable option IMO.

Anyone worried about Gudbranson going to UFA if he has a great year has it ass backwards. There is nothing wrong with paying players who deserve it, I certainly hope Gudbranson is given every opportunity to show his merit.

Hey Devias, when you go back to whatever hole you crawled out of, Justin remember:Tanev is better at defending than everybody on your team. You will never beat Pittsburgh, Washington or NYR with that shyt d-corps

I would have like to see two years, but it seems he is ready to trade or let him walk if he doesn't play well. Could be a good sign

Interesting news today, the Philadelphia Flyers bought the Alaska Aces ECHL affiliate and are moving them to Portland Maine. However, the news release said the Flyers are keeping their affiliation with Reading. I wonder who the Canucks might affiliate with this year? My guess is Adirondack (which is close to Utica), and now needs an affiliate with Calgary moving to Kansas City.

2 years could of worked for me as well but I prefer 1 because I think it would put of evaluating him truly for another year.

Guddy must know its do or die time for him as far as living up to his "reputation", while I think most agree he will never be the type of player you hope you get at 3OV, I do think he can still prove to be a solid player moving forward.

Except that he can 'show' all he wants and the name walk. Now we've got 40 games to resign or trade him or lose him for nothing. JB gave up all leverage here

U forgot the TDL.
All the leverage is not gone by a far cry.

U have a narrow & pessimistic view on matters.

I agree with your points. The show me contract is good if he's committed, but I am not so sure he will be. I would've paid a bit more annually to get a second year because if he isnt sticking around then you need to move him and he then becomes a pure rental at the TDL this year. On the other side, negotiating another contract Gud can wait for the open market prices if the Canucks try to hardball him.

Tricky situation, but I feel like the 1 year deal hurt his value as an asset. I am hoping it pays off, but I dont seem him being a long time Canuck unless its for an unfriendly contract

If JB wants to keep him then he'll pay him for extension before TDL. It's enough time to know either way. Otherwise a D rental that adds playoff grit can score JB a good haul in return from many teams. Not being tied by a contract actually opens the door for many top cap strapped contenders to give valuable futures.

I tried to find evidence of that, but I dont think its true. This year's D were moved for peanuts compared to the cost to acquire Gudbranson:

Streit - two trades, but weak returns
Oduya - C propsect, conditional 4th
Brendan Smith - 2nd and 3rd round picks
Benn - C prospect, 4th rd
Hainsey - Kristo, 2nd rd pick
Stone - 3rd and conditional 5th rd picks
Shattenkirk - 2 prospects, 1st and conditional 2nd rd picks

Of those guys moved, I think Smith is the most comparable player and those picks are not equivalent to what VAN paid FLA IMO
