Provorov - MacDonald

In the days to come, Philly may also be in the market for a minutes-eating veteran defenseman.
Hextall told MDZ to get lost because they wanted to get younger, so any veteran dman they sign would have to be better than him. Maybe they can get one who eats so many minutes all the D prospects can stay in the AHL.

i wouldn't mind having a veteran as the 7th guy in case someone goes down.. But its not a glaring necessity, and I might be just as inclined to call up one of the other kids to get them a taste.
When I see what Toronto did with all their kids I think maybe the Flyers should just throw them in and let them develop together. But then the other side tells me forwards develop faster and easier than defensemen and we need to keep that in mind when thinking about throwing them to the wolves before they are absolutely ready.

It's not like the defenseman we have are coming straight out of junior. Morin, Sanheim, and Hagg all have decent AHL experience. |

That should be Manning's role. |

Well, Morin and especially Hagg do. Sanheim is just coming off his first season.

And it probably will be if all things work out as planned.

Yes, compared to me and my friends, VandeVelde is a hockey God. Compared to the bulk of players in the NHL, he was not in the top 95% or so, skill-wise.
I still maintain that people were notupset with his play so much as his seemin inability to be a healthy scratch when almost everyone else (whether they be star players, role players, young players, or veterans) were subject to it. I'm not saying it was due to ties with his former college coach, but from my standpoint, there were times whether other players were scratched where I thought that VandeVelde was a batter candidate. |

So two have a good chance of being ready and one has a chance... Manning would be a good 6/7 swing man. |

GMRH and HCDH seem to be on the same page, but the arrival of ACKK will make things interesting, especially on the powerplay where CCG runing the show and ACWS being in front of the net are the two constants. Losing ACPB to Vegas in the expansion draft could affect the PK if GMGM makes the Frenchman his pick. |

If VdV had missed 20% of the games, it would have cut down on the complaints about him by 200%. |

Bill I have to respectfully disagree on your assessment of M. Madsen. There is no way that you can tell who will be the best of the five goalie prospects. Madsen has size and talent and all he needs is a great goaltending coach and experience. I personally think he was the one to keep. Time will tell. Also exposing Cousins would have been worth more than trading Madsen and a fourth round pick. If Hextall signs Elliott, Johnson, Bernier or any other cull I will be officially done with this team. None of those options are as good as Mason and unless we get a Raanta, Grubauer or Korpisalo Mason is still the best option. Neuvirth is a back up. |

He wasn't going to sign here with Hart and Sandstrom arriving next season, and Lyon still being waiver eligible in 18-19. There's no way he was breaking thru that logjam in the AHL. |

Good for you Bill re staying in shape and keeping your weight under control. Take it from a guy who went from 270 to 200 at the age of 46-47, it is much harder to get and stay in shape as you get older. Right now I'm at 215, and really want to get under 210 and hopefully down to 205, but at 51, it ain't easy.

You nailed it. I also thought that when he was in the lineup, they used him too much, especially on the Pk. Anymore than 6-8 minutes at ES and 1-2 on PK is too much for me. He should have never played more than 10 minutes in any given game and his average TOI should have been in the 8-9 range.

I don't worry.
They have depth there.
Also they didn't have any certainty that he would sign here knowing that they do have depth here. Next year you probably have Sandstrom coming over and I think Hart is AHL available. You think he signs here to maybe go to ECHL?
I think they did Madsen a favor and got pack a player that maybe could be an AHL role guy.
