I heard Sakic will only sign Zadorov if he gets a 1st, top 4 D and 3 2nd rounders in the deal |

I have never seen a player,on this site, more underrated then MD.I dont blame Sakic one bit for sticking to his guns. Some of the offers i have heard for him are just laughable.Hes had a rough couple years Yes and none of us know really what the true offers are for him. To be mad and run Sakic down is again laughable. The ones running him down the most are the teams that wanted him most. They want him for middle or late 1st and a somewhat prospect, yeah no thanks.I heard some saying Hanifin for him.I dont think thats even enough but thats just my opinion. |

how sweet do these new Av's jerseys look? I think Macky is going to have a monster year and look sexy doing it - deej19
Yeah Crosby is a cheater on the draws |

The answer of course is Partice Bergeron in face-offs and looks. Those other guys are a bunch of chuds. |

The conundrum is Duchene will turn 27 during the season. Considering the average player peaks offensively around 24 years old, you have to ask yourself a couple of questions.
Does anybody really think (with what we have now) the Avs are going to be a playoff team this year? How many years will it be until the Avs could possibly be a playoff contender? 2 years? 3 or 4 years?
Is Duchene going to be happy playing in that environment for several more years? And if the Avs DON'T get the pieces they are looking for in a Duchene trade, does that stretch it out 2 or even 3 more years?
So, is it better to try and hold on to an unhappy player in a bottom-dwelling team until he is 31 or 32 in the hopes he could be part of a Cup-winning team or would it be better to just go ahead a trade him, make HIM happy and start building around some younger guys who can all work towards the goal together?
I totally agree. Duchene has a higher ceiling than he is being given credit for and you definitely don't want to just basically GIVE him away.
However, if keeping him isn't going to make a huge difference in the outcome of the season anyways, maybe it's just better to go ahead and plan for a better future (and give Duchene a change to thrive on another team who has a legitimate chance at the Cup).
It's a tough decision and I don't envy Sakic at all... |

I think the Avs have improved this offseason on a number of different levels, but I think the very best they can do is be in the hunt for that last playoff spot. There are a lot of different variables at play:
1. Addition By Subtraction. The Avs improved mightily just by having Martinsen, Iginla, Wiercioch, Beauchemin, Mitchell, Tuytin, Gelinas, Goloubef, Bourque, Grigorenko off the team
2. Coaching Staff is different, Bednar now has a legitimate staff and has real time to prepare instead of being tabbed in the last moment.
3. If Andrighetto puts up the kind of points for 82 games that he did after we acquired him, we could be looking at a hell of a player
4. Compher and Jost will be here full time and they will make an impact.
5. Will the young D Hold up? Babrerio was a great addition last year. If Barrie could be traded for a better younger dman then we should do it. Lindholm is a battler, love that guy. Mironov and Bigras will challenge for spots. Warsofsky has some NHL experience with a team that just won the cup.
6. Varly is going to have to stand on his head to give the Avs any hope of making the playoffs. Can an oft-injured Russian goaltender carry his team to the playoffs? Bobrovsky did it last year, so yes it's possible. Bernier is a reliable backup and proved he can fill in last season with Anaheim should Varly go down.
7. Role players have drastically improved. Our bottom 2 lines actually have players that can score. I love the Colin Wilson additon, Yakupov, a former #1 overall pick should be an interesting pickup that wants to prove many people wrong. Nieto showed he can score last year. Greer will be fighting for a spot.
8. This is a team that still has Duchene, Mackinnon, Landeskog, Johnson, Rantanen, and Barrie.
Bottom line is this: Avs will be a better team next season, the question is are they going to improve by 10-20 points or will they surprise some people and sneak into the playoffs? |

All I know is this team is going to be more fun to watch this season vs last.
Taking Martinsen, iggy, mitchell, beauchemin, Rourque, gelinas, etc out
adding in full seasons for Compher, Ghetto, Neito, Jost, Mirinov, Barberio.
IF anything they will be skating their balls off, no more slow pokes |

I forsee colborne or comeau being shipped out with a duchene trade. Probably with a major salary retain on them.
Someone will take one of those 2 at 1.2m |
