Adam Proteau: Despite some changes, Jets still have troubling questions this year The Winnipeg Jets' slow build has yielded some terrific young talent (including Mark Scheifele, Patrik Laine and Jacob Trouba), but very little in the way of success in the standings. The Jets did make some changes to the lineup this summer, but there's no assurance they'll be in the post-season this year, either. This makes their play in 2017-18 crucial to the long-term look of the franchise.

Great column. As a Hawks fan, I thought Chevy was really trying to live off his acquisitions of former Hawks, including the above mentioned Byfuglien plus Ladd plus Frolik and later Dano plus a 1st rounder. That's a lot of scavenging of his former employer.

I think it's somewhat on him. What boss gets a 7 or 8 year window to turn around a business ?

He came in saying he was going to build through the draft and he's done that. That takes time. His picks of Scheifele, Laine, Ehlers, Trouba, Morrisey and hopefully Connor are now starting to contribute and take over the team.

People don't see what a mess the Jet farm team was when they first arrived in Winnipeg. It was pathetic.

However it's time to start seeing something now. This is a big year for Chevy and the organization. A .915 team save percentage (league average) and improved special teams get them competing for a playoff spot. IMHO that starts with the coach. The talent is there, so if they struggle again early Maurice has to go.
