They drafted thier 1c/2c/1d and traded top5 picks for guys like Roy. Also, the examples you guys are bringing up are before the modern era (ie the lockout) when a lot of things changed. I think there are likely a few outliers, but building through the draft and developing is the bread and butter of winning franchises. - neem55
Not to linger on this subject but I think you are wrong about them drafting 1c/2c/1d.
But that depends on who you consider their 1c and 2c are and who their 1d was.
Based on my opinion their 2c was Forsberg and their 1d was Bourque. Not drafted by Colorado or Quebec. |

until there is a black and white blood test type of scenario to diagnose concussions (and that may not be too far in the future), there is no way doctors can do anything more than trust the patient. |

Lindros for Forsberg etc though makes it true but a 1 D was not Foote IMO |

I read all of Carols articles, and generally start off by saying thank you.
I guess you are referencing Ryan White, or Andrew Shaw RE: lying to doctors?
No one is counter claiming that there is a solution to concussions so I wasn't sure what you were pointing out. |

I've had a couple concussions & symptons vary.
When fine only fitness tests requiring balance & looking up at anytime i could not fake it. Heavy exertion tests could also show up my lessened ability to function normally.
As of now brain trauma eg jelly slamming back n forth is too difficult to see the damage done. For myself it took about 5yrs to feel no side effects other than my posts here on HB šš.Headaches of the migraine variety would happen in clusters at anytime without warning. All my senses had to shut down to simply let me try to sleep through agonizing pain. I cannot say what other ppl sufferings r like other than its very unpleasant & nobody can u help much at all. |

Maybe one day there will be a way of telling, but it has to be up to the patient/person to be honest about their symptoms. Andrew Shaw, should know at this point, the road his life will go down if he starts lying to doctors about his current condition. We could easily name off a hundred players we know who have been severely affected by concussions, so why he is lying is beyond me. I know the pressure is there to play, compete and win, but FFS its your future and your family that must take a front seat. |

Well if he wants to roll the dice it doesn't matter why he chooses to do so.
He has no clue or disregards the serious nature of concussions.
If he ignores those who died or suffered in horrendous ways with shortened or quality of life post career he is awfully dumb. Putting money & his career ahead of everything & everyone is not only selfish when he has earned a very good lifestyle already. Sitting on the LTIR he still gets payed. All that said he knows nada IMO. Says a lot about his intelligence.
One bout i had i was driving to work & in no more than 2 mins i was incapacited with the onset of migraine supreme. I couldn't drive or see. Now if that happened on a highway who knows what may have happened. |

I think it speaks volume about the pressure the player is facing from his team/coaching staff than it says about his knowledge and understanding of concussions. Sidney Crosby forced concussions to the fore-front of hockey injuries when he went down from the Stukel (I think) hit. I think concussions have never been more talked about in hockey since then. I think the league needs to take a pro-active stance on the importance of players lives, rather than decline to comment on lawsuits regarding CTE and how some high up league admins decline to see the connection between CTE and concussions. |
