Dear Brian Burke and Brad Treliving,

I heard that Troy Brouwer lost 8 pounds during the Pre-season, did he lose that all from leg muscle? He looks slow, sluggish, disinterested, and totally unskilled.
Can we pay an extra $5 /seat/game to pay for Brouwer to be buried in Stockton for the next 3 years?

VERY SINCERELY,

What I noticed last night:

1. Bartkowski is waaaay slower than I remembered last year. Him and Stone looked like they were tied down... by stones

2. Bennett and Steeger looked even more convinced they could turn into a surprisingly great line if they put Janko/Tkachuk out there... While Brouwer seemed to miss literally every pass that was fed to him

3. Tanner Glass had some good hits but it helped absolutely nothing. Vancouver still made every play. I can get why having him would be useful in a playoff series to wear players down but in the regular season his job is useless... Especially when someone with speed and grit could play that spot (ie. Lomberg, Hath)

4. As much as I hate this excuse, the bounces the nucks got last night were pure luck... The second and third goal are not bounces that happen night in and out... First goal was just bad by Smith - hope he biunces back before Wednesday

Only take away that matters:
Who cares it's preseason. As long as they get their poop together by game 1 regular season. Preseason is for working out the kinks.

But at this point it should be about setting your lines right too. If Glass and Bart are are replacing Janko and Kulak while Brouwer drags down Benny, it's gonna kick things off wrong again... The whole team (including Gully) can't seem to shake off bad starts and bad early line combos

Preseason is about getting into regular season shape, finding chemistry with new teammates, adjusting to new coaching systems, etc.

You would like to see goals scored, big saves, shutouts, line chemistry, etc but that is just for fan entertainment. You guys will be just fine

The sad thing about how poorly Brouwer played is the fact his physical game has completely disappeared. There was 1 play where he had the opportunity to crush a Canuck into the boards, but somehow ended up on his ass. He's so (frank)in weak.

The 3rd line would be so much better with Jankowski on it. He needs to play asap!

I thought Glass was the best player on the 4th line, and the best 4th liner we've had in a while. He actually hits!!

Hamilton needs to be replaced with Hathaway.

This sing along bullpoop "I love you, you love me. We're a happy family" is hard to watch. It's time to win and start acting like winning is a priority. Hurting Dougie Hamilton's feelings for cutting his brother needs to happen, and underperforming vets need to start packing their bags.

There's no way the Canucks should be dominating anyone.

LOL Glass looked good and is the best 4th liner we have had in a while. Put down the pipe next time you watch a game.

Don't start worrying till the first loss on Wednesday. Imagine how good the flames would be with David and a real goalie....

Sounds like The Flames are getting bagskated today. Not sure if Gulu shares the whole "play as lazily as you want in preseason as long as you're better in game 1" mantra some people are on board with.

Then again, we saw that effort against New York and Montreal last season. Both games ended up being turning points. Maybe we're trying to turn the corner earlier this season.

Not that I disagree with you but I think many are pretty sensitive to the type of slow start we had last year. This no effort preseason is fine & dandy but I'll tell you what, if we get pasted & I mean just pasted in the opener on the 4th, well then I don't think I will be able to get to that magical 10 game mark without losing it. Not sure what it is with this FCKING team. You get excited over what should be on paper as a solid playoff bound team & then they come out with a string of games like last night. All the while they keep playing pilons like Bart, Glass & spoon feed Brouwer on PP & sinking the right wing of our highest draft pick in team history. FFS! By the time people are starting to write them off after a 3-8-2 start, they become the biggest disappointment on the sports panels, they decide to go on a 10 game win streak. Wash, rinse, repeat. I fell like Im watching the Calgary Flame version of Groundhog Day!

Rant fcking over! I will be drinking my 'Crown' & preparing for my hockey pools on Sunday, Monday & Tuesday & forget about being a fan & just try to win some pools.
I know, breath, its preseason, sip that glass of crown & like Tommy in the Goodfellows, "don't worry about it, you worry too much"

I got the feeling last night that the Canucks were playing like the Flames of three years ago. Not expected to win, but with a lot of youth and hard work they surprise other teams.

Flames were complacent. In the end a good old fashioned ass kicking might by a Canuck C team might be a good thing to get them rolling.

God damn I just want them to win 1st game of the season.

I think a positive season would be:

1) Win in Anaheim
2) Not get swept by the Oil
3) Not get swept in the first round

If 2 of these 3 things happen I will be happy, sort of.

I have not heard anything good or bad about Harmonic so far this year. How has he been?

Obviously Smith will be the biggest factor in how good the Flames do this year but a close second in my mind will be Harmonic.

Few games I saw, him & Brodie look like they will be a very good 2nd pairing. He is steady from what I saw. Hard to really know at this point other than things look like they are on the positive side.

Training camp and the exhibition games have a few purposes:
Get into game shape
Try new combinations and new methods
Develop chemistry with new players
Address previous mistakes and improve on previous results.
So why are we seeing
Uninspired play that cannot work toward getting ready to play a serious game
The same old combinations that failed last year
Two new players
Same old mistakes?
News flash for the coaching staff
Last year was a failure, the team got swept in the first round, making the playoffs is not good enough!
When the PP enters the O zone the same way every time and then drops it back to the point that pass will be intercepted often.
The point of the draft is to get young players and develop them into NHL players, not to get the first rounder to the NHL year one and let the rest rot in the minors.
