Garrison cleared waivers yesterday. Can't speak to whether he'll report to Chicago.

Shipachyov has a one-way contract. He needed a NMC to protect him from demotion to the AHL.

Would a NMC work for demotion? I didn't think that it would stop a player from being sent to the minors.

Yes. Players with NMCs cant be traded, placed on waivers, or sent to the minors unless the player consents.

As we recently learned from the expansion draft, they are required protections as well. Important to know for when the 32nd team joins the league.
