Good stuff as always Jay. Barrasso, Richter and Cujo should all be in, IMO.

I'd disqualify any netminder that wore a mask. Wimps.

Goalies have to be judged with a kind of WAR stat (wins above replacement)

A lot of teams were great teams and would have had a lot of success regardless of who was in net (Looking at you Tom Barrasso) - In the case of the Penguins, I believe had they traded a little of their early 90's scoring and upgraded Barrasso, they might have won more cups, or at least been more dominant in the regular season

There are very few goalies who were great goalies regardless of the team in front of them, that's why there are so few in the Hall of Fame

Osgood is a great example. Those Red Wing teams were stacked, a lot of guys could have played in net for those teams and won Cups

I actually think that too many players are in the HHOF. To me, you should have to be a player that is a top-5 player at your position for at least 6-8 years (hopefully with some degree of playoff success) to get in. I don't think Mike Richter ever had that long of a stretch where was a top-5 goalie, same for Barasso.

Interesting read. Goalies are difficult. A lot of the guys you mentioned had several hall of famers playing in front of them. I am not sure if that affects their status or not.

Personally, I think the hall is a little too inclusive. I don’t like that some years are weaker than others which means a guy who has been retired for 10+ years finally “gets in”. I think there should more of a unanimous singular vote about each player. If that means no one gets in for 2 years so be it. If that means 7 get in one year, alright. The hall should be the best of the best.

I don’t know just find it awkward when there is like a super deserving player getting in, but he has to sit next to someone who hasn’t achieved nearly as much but is getting in as well. Like Teemu Selanne sitting next to Mark Rechi is weird.

So, Which one was undeserving?

Recchi and Selanne have extremely similar stats, Recchi also won 3 cups, #12 All Time in Scoring

You suggesting he isn't as deserving as Selanne?

The guy who was undeserving this year was Kariya

900 games played seems low, 900 points isn't all that impressive, no cups

Was just a really good player... HOF? Thats what's watering the place down, not guys like Recchi

Richter should be in. It's silly.
