10/10 title. Much journalism. Such wow. |

being the proven playoff performer kane has been throughout his career I can see him getting what you suggest.
Another 30 goal season. Yeah i guess when you did once many moons ago you can say it again. He wont get 30 this year, yet again.
Is he even on a 30 goal pace at this point? |

Botterill is dreaming in technicolour if he thinks he will get a big return for Kane. Gone are the days when teams throw around first round picks for the likes of Vermette, Hanzal or Ladd. Only Ottawa has traded it's 1st rounder in 2018.
Kane is a good not great player who has scored 30 once and has never played in the playoffs. Garth makes him out to be a star |

Garth should be Kaneās marketing exec, with the way he builds him up. While a nice addition to any contender, what you are suggesting for a guy who has no playoff record, a reputation as a me first guy, and one 30goal season, is an unrealistic haul. Ottawa didnāt do so good on the last āblockbusterā, and most GMās in this cap world know they need to conserve capable, inexpensive, assets. The top three or four on teams today eat up so much cap room, that the dollars and assets to land Kane type players has fallen. Hey, I guess you hope some dumb GM will be so frightened to be left out that he overpays, but I doubt it. |

Every single year the top rental is traded for a 1st round pick. The difference with Kane, is that he's only 26, where as most rentals are much older, and usually 1 dimensional. Kane brings a lot more to the table than just scoring even strength goals. He brings toughness, speed, and is great on the PK. He definitely has limitations, and isn't a perfect player. But there are a handful of teams that really do feel he might be the missing link for a long playoff run. And if teams get into a bidding war, then I can see getting back 3 pieces in return. It's all about supply and demand. This year, there isn't much out there as far as rentals go, so teams will definitely over spend to aquire a young player who is one of the better even strength goal scorers in the league.
Thanks for updating us once again on his stats, Garth... |

He is a douchebag with a long reputation of teammates not liking him. He is also on a contract year.
Sorry, you won't get a kings ransom for him as a rental and his next contract will be a big mistake for whoever signs him. |

Tough read. Sure some contending team will cough up a #1. Somewhere between 20-31 overall. The odds of getting a decent player in that spot is quite low. Just look at the Sabres draft history in that spot in the first round...not pretty...(Zadorov, Girgensens, Armia, Pysyk, Kassian, Ennis, Persson) are all comparables. Good luck with that.
GM's are wising up. These deals never work. Never. Add to the fact the guy makes 5M a year and is a UFA. Not to mention he is a DB who has never made the playoffs.
Instead of dreaming of a treasure trove of assets, perhaps you should be wondering why they are now trading Kane, three years after they gave up a treasure trove of assets to get him. The same goes for Lehner. Buying high an selling low is no way to run a team |

I don't think there's a question that he lands a 1st. He'll probobly get a b level prospect and may get a conditional pick depending on if he signs. |

We could just as easily list every Leaf 1st round pick over the past 15 years that hasn't turned into a stud, or any other team for that matter.
GMs haven't wised up to nothing. At least 10 1st round picks have been traded in each of the past 3 drafts, more will be traded this year as well.
Traded a treasure trove of assets for Kane? What was traded that was treasure? Armia- 4th liner drafted in 2011, Lemieux -2014 pick with 1 NHL game, and a 1st who still hasn't seen NHL time.
Kane will get virtually the same now as what the Sabres traded for him: A 1st, a prospect, and a later pick.
And, why would the Sabres move Kane? His next contract demands and a new GM wanting to build the team his way. Kane is only the first to go.
Your hatred for anything Sabres/Buffalo is ridiculous. |

If Toronto were to trade JVR, he would become the #1 coveted player on the trade block. I would say he would bring back somewhere in the the ballpark of: 1st, B-level prospect, and a 2nd. He could even fetch a tad more, but who knows. It's a tough situation for the Leafs letting so many UFAs walk this season. |

I think JVR and Kane would be similar value. Both good goal scorers. |

I'm a huge Bills fan. Been going to Sabres games for years. I love Buffalo and defend the city all the time. I am critical of Garth's silly over hyping, overrating Sabres talent. They hired GMTM. He was a colossal failure, yet Garth defended him until the end. Then threw him under the bus when he was gone. I don't think hiring another rookie GM is a good move.
The Maple Leafs sure do not look good right now. Nylander and Marner have seemingly regressed. Others are playing below expectations. They have failed to develop their defense. Outside of Dermott, I'm not sure what is in the pipeline defensively. But I do have faith in the HHoF caliber coaching and management. Protecting young players
I will never understand why so many Sabres fans, who have been given horse crap over the last 4-6 years and continue to say it tastes like pumpkin pie. Nothing will change in Buffalo until fans wake up. Call me a hater, if you want. Your team is still in 30th place and your best player and goalie appear to to be leaving for fifty cents on the dollar |

I agree - but I don't think either is worth 3 pieces.
Roster player and lower pick or B propect
or
High pick and B prospect
Both are UFA's after the season and wanting pay raises. Both come with their own unique challenges - Kane's attitude and off ice questions, JVR's unwillingness to play defence or a physical game.

The Leafs have JVR, Komorov and Bozak as UFA's. JVR would get you a late #1. The other two would fetch a #2 each. It's really not worth the return.
They won't overpay any of them. They are not trading any of them. I would think Lou will convince two of the three to stay this summer, taking a home town discount |

Except the Sabres are willing to retain 50% of Kane's salary to mitigate the CAP impact.
Furthermore, Kane is EXACTLY the type of player teams crave during a playoff run...tough as nails, hustles like crazy, backchecks/ defensively aware penalty killer, powerplay.
His age just doesnt transfer well to another Sabres Rebuild again, coupled with likely lockout in 18 months.
