Peter Tessier: Jets Slay Sharks in OT and #Hurtl Jets slay Sharks but did they lose Kulikov?

Yes...there seems to be an issue with Buff...at times last night he appeared non committal and reached his stick out.

On another goal against he watched the play and didn't get involved.

It's really too bad Kulikov got injured because moving Buff up to forward for a game may snap his head back into place.

Going forward I'm not sure how the Jets will handle the big man...certainly we need him this year...but it's also apparent that his defensive skills are eroding faster than anyone expected...and that is really unfortunate as I think his contract makes him untradeable.

"He should get a 2-game suspension for that negligence."

Hmmmm...

No history of suspensions, it was a bang-bang play & there was no malicious intent to injure... Didn't target the head, either. Unfortunate that Kulikov was bloodied, but I think you're being a little dramatic with the suspension talk.

Big Buff only got 2 mins for his little temper tantrum intentional high stick on Meier after his goal....that was far more egregious than the boarding.

Exciting game to watch all the way around though.

I don't know what kind of mental gymnastics I just read to somehow turn that into a dirty hit but that's not even a penalty, let alone a suspension.

Hurtl. You're on fire Peter!

I agree it should be a game or two based on there is no way that was a last second turn. Need this sh!t out of the game.

I only watched the first period but reading the posts tells me what we already know.

Dirty and careless are two different things. He should be suspended because he took no care in his approach or concern for safety of another player. Will he be? Of course not.

I think he will get a game or two suspension if no other reason than the league needs to keep on track with its message that "hitting from behind" / " boarding" will not be looked on lightly.

No previous infractions will however weigh on the decision.

Kulikov looked back, then turned ... and he got pasted ... but the league has ramped up calls on questionable play - i.e. play that could produce injuries ... look at all the penalties called for sticks near hands - still not used to those calls - like, f_ck give me a break when a stick wisps along a players gloves and there's a penalty ... however - there used to be a lot of hacks and lots of wrist injuries
zone z
Byf pissed that he missed his man and hooks whats-his-F_ck around the neck and getting only 2 ... we should be happy it was only 2 ... the fact that Sharks take 2 for too-many-men shortly after had me laughing my a_s off !!
.
2 more points in the standings whilst our 1st and 3rd line centres are still out in an arena where the home side rarely gives up a loss - BEAUTY !
.
Please remind me the last game where you saw so many Jets Dmen rush the O-zone ?
.
And to conclude to all those in San Jose (having just returned a month ago from 5 days in San Francisco) - it's cold as F_CK here in the winter and it gets dark early - really - but the wifi works well at my house so come on over I'll get down to the vendor and get some beer and we'll watch the game ... you have a good team that well supported and good for the league ... cheers to you all !

agreed - games like that make me a hockey fan.

The hit was negligent by Hertl and he was penalized for it. 5 and a game was about right. Kulikov hurt but penalty is determined by the action not the outcome.

I watched the first period only but it sounds like 2 and 3 was the Wild West. I saw the dirty hit on Kuli, hope Hertl gets 2.

My most frustrating Jets player this year has been Buf. From reading the posts, looks like I missed a lot of Bad Buf in 2 and 3. Prairiefire described his play very well in a earlier thread. Is trying to eliminate or reduce freestyle Buf making things worse for Buf’s game? He seems confused, and this apprehension did not start this game.

A game on the wing as a reset or reboot? He needs a reset somehow.

Maybe Buff doesn’t like being the #3 right defenceman ? He clearly is behind Trouba and Myers.

He used to be a game changer, but not anymore it seems.

He has already complained about his reduced ice time. He doesn’t want to play LHD....he doesn’t want to play RW....he should be grateful to be earning the salary that he gets and suck it up.

What about my boy Armia

The guy is amazing at retrieving the puck, generating his own shot, stick handling, and killing penalties. He has shown that when playing with offensive players, like Perreault he produces like a top tier NHL player. The man needs to play with better players. I for one would love for the Jets to try him on Scheifele's wing.

Armia’s starting to show signs of a true breakout. Hopefully where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Better late than never.

Just because it’s interesting to me, I wanna ask some questions to the ladies and gents who also lurk around in the comments with me.

1: If you have a Jets jersey, or many, whom are you repping?
2: Favourite piece of Jets memorabilia that you own?
3: Favourite moment of Jets 2.0 hockey?

Rexy - I'll answer:

1. I'm not a jersey guy at games but I own 2 jerseys: one which was worn by Lars-Eric Sjoberg in the 70's that was purchased by my Dad and given to me for Christmas (dark) ... the other is a 90's style with "Coach Keith" for the name given to me by my older boy one Christmas while coaching his hockey team (white)
2. favourite memorabilia is the Sjoberg jersey
3. favourite moment of Jets 2.0 (Since they're return) - any time they trounce teams when I'm in attendance with one of my sons

Cheers

I have a game worn Laurie Bocheman jersey that my mom ( who passed away a few years back and why I love the jersey even more ) bought with me when Friar Nicholson held auctions at red river college way back in the day. that is the answer to questions one and two.
For 3, until we do something in the playoffs nothing tops them coming back yet.
