Why not start Mason against Nashville? In three games this season vrs Nashville, Helle's been rocked every time. |

Any word on who is starting between the pipes for the Rags?
Doesn't really matter as we will likely see them both anyway |

We don't want no Aho's on our team. We traded the last one to Buffalo. |

It's realistic to think Mason could come in and steal the starting job from Flash In The Pan Hellybuck. Steveo has a track record of ridiculous hot streaks. Good problem for PoMo to have. |

It could happen but the reality right now is Hellybuck has played well and the organization has regarded him highly for a few years now. It's more realistic to think that Mason lost the starting job to the one who became the franchise goaltender.
Mason has potential to do what Fleury did for Pens last year in playoffs when Murray was out. Of course Murray came in against the Preds and sealed the deal. |

Scheifle looks like he has tweaked the shoulder again. He is gone off the ice now. The shoulder looks like its acting up after taking three hits, one being from a collision with Wheeler.
Way to go Mase! |

All these Laine goals are starting to become bittersweet. I imagine every goal he has scored lately adds about $100K to his next contract. |

Yep, most likely right on the money regarding....money. His game has certainly changed since 6 or 8 games ago. I guess all this chatter on HB pointing out his defensive game lackings made him pay attention. Sounds reasonable, doesn't it???
How about Mason? I for one am very happy for the guy as he gets a few breaks, makes some good saves, and comes out with a big win and a goose egg! Good for him! This is what the team needs, confident goalies, pushing eachother in a freindly manner. Anyways, he didn't get too many breaks early on so this is a good way to get back into the net after a concussion. |

Main story lines are Laine, Mason and Scheiffle with good reason.
other thoughts:
*How about a little love for the Little line - they were solid and did everything expected of a "2nd" line.
*With expected return of Lowry/Tanev and addition of Stasny and Hendricks already moved to wing should we expect (if Shieffle is healthy) the warrior to become a healthy scratch? if so was that his last NHL fight?
*I don't recall seeing Mcleod after the scrap.
*Armia can play up or down the lineup
*Rangers are depleted and demoralized, hope our game didn't pick up habits causing us to play down to that level
*Lundquist plays deep in his net and depends on good reads and reflexes. He is not alone in struggling to pick up Laine's shot.
*Wheeler looked like he had it going until the collision with Sheiffle |

Flash in the... you are drunk. I believe it now.
Elite in college? Check
Elite in the AHL? Check
Near-elite in the NHL (at 24)? Check.
Total flash in the pan. |

Couple things, I think it was understood the kid can score and will score. I was concerned earlier with skating, defensive awareness and play, and winning some puck battles. Now, I think it might be a bit unreasonable to expect him to grind it out on the boards with puck battles at this part of his career but the defensive aspect had me starting to be concerned with one dimension, waiting for the nice pass for the one timer. Anyways, the coaching staff, his teamates, new centre, etc, appeared to have got the message through. And, with better defensvie awareness comes boat loads of goals. Needless to say, the kid has shown us that he is committed to become better defensively which is impressive.
If you watch Laine in warmup, he seems to have this slower sweeping shot that the puck comes off like a rocket. It almost seems like a longer movement where his stick starts behind his body and seems to sweep the puck along with the motion. I don't think the motion is actually slow, I think his entire shooting motion like those goals last night is a longer motion making it look slower. When he has time, he has that longer motion, but we also know he can get it off quickly as well with little room. Just my opinion, I am not an expert.
Mason looked last nite like he did in OT in the Moose game. In that game he looked OK, so so, had the goals scored in tight, but in OT I thought he found a different level. Last nite, he looked like that Moose OT period, making saves, with some fortunate bounces, but he was tracking pucks through traffic, I thought he was fighting hard last nite.
Hope Scheifs is ok. Good thing we have an extra centre and extra bodies.

I think he will get the same amount of money as Ehlers and Scheifele. |

Mason is out with LBI (day to day), Hutch has been recalled from the Moose. Looks like Scheifs is day to day as well so he is sitting this one out, Tanev in, Enstrom in, Perreault out with the flu, might play. But, if he does not play Dano is in. Not sure which is D out, likely 70.
So lines are:
81-18-26
27-25-29
13-9-52
56-15-40
If 85 can go, he will replace Tanev on 3rd line LW, and Tanev will replace Dano 56. |
