I am hoping he becomes a good #2 guy
He is raw still but all signs point to him at the worst being a 2nd pairing guy |

He's making the team. He might have to shift to the right if we can move Bogo. |

There is really a concern about a 3 game sample size from the playoffs? |

More good Sabres blogs,as usual, thanks MP.
I wonder how many GM's are sweating it after seeing Las Vegas success with a bunch of cast offs and "misfits". It's such a copycat league, right? How many GM's have been preaching a team model/cap model that has been completely deconstructed by the Golden Knights this year? Does this usher in a new wave of GM's in the NHL...? Is this why Dubas is getting the go ahead in T-town?
Good question for Botts': What has the success of Vegas made you change the way you think with regards to building a contender?
Intelligent people change their minds with new info.
Go Sabres. |

I think that's a good Rorschach test that will say something different to different people.
It says to me that the Bogo, Okposo, Moulson and Pominville contracts are holding us back. Vegas doesn't have $22 mil in questionable money. Young talent can also surprise you.
The cynic in me says that the lesson is that a $500m expansion fee buys favorable rules, that if exploited properly, can buy you a cup |

from those who saw the playoffs, they said there was a big drop off in his play...the "toxic environment" in Buffalo was brought up then I wondered whether he had an injury nagging at him...guhle himself pointed to on-ice lessons learned |

I said it in the last blog. Vegas got a lot of good players, not great ones, but good ones in this expansion draft. The NHL actually knew what they were doing when they changed the expansion rules. Not that anyone could have expected them to be one win away from the Finals, but the notion that George McPhee was clueless never made any sense to me.
The interesting story will be whether or not they can afford to keep all these guys. An inordinate amount of players on that team have just earned some major paydays. |

So worst case scenario:
3 of our top 4 d are here.
Risto
Dahlin
Guhle
Maybe need a top 4.
5/6
McCabe and Nelson
7/8
Beal u and bogo

I don't know if i'd put guhle in the top-4 yet...Scandella is in the mix and, imo, possibly one of these three--nelson, bogo, mccabe |

I guess I forgot about scandella. Good call.
I always felt like McCabe could be a solid 4.
I feel like we have a solid group of defenders.
All under contract, reasonable terms.
And then
Bowl u/ bogo

tbh, i'm starting to like the thought of (barring any moves) starting the season like this on the back-end:
the Rasmi
Scandella-nelson
McCabe-bogo
beaulieu
leave guhle in the minors for a little more seasoning then bring him up once bogo gets injured |

O'Reilly on TSN, "We were so close to moving on and we didn't and I'm a big part of that and I'm disappointed in myself and there were a lot of things I could've done differently and it's not what we wanted."
@pham1717
It's very calculated on his part. It takes heat off of him and makes people say what you just did. You can't say it after every game and he does
Seriously this dude needs to stop talking Post game.
It sounds so disingenuous and phony |
