Mark Paul: Florida Panthers Trading Partners (Edmonton Oilers) The Florida Panthers have stated publicly that they're looking to make a big splash in the off-season. This is the third part of a league-wide search for great potential trading partners for the Panthers. Today we will look at the Edmonton Oilers.

Ugh another RNH trade proposal

Let's trade our most defensively responsible forward, who can play top six and 1st power play, for a rookie forward with one NHL point and an unproven bottom-pairing defenseman... the latter of which was a 7th round long shot.

Sounds like a winner that will get us back to the playoffs!

Sorry for sincerely hoping you would come up with a better trade.

Respectfully disagree. This is the kind of move a team would accept if they were preparing to enter a full rebuild. Weegar and Borgstrom are talent young players but neither will be full time NHL players for at least the next couple of years.

Oilers are set down the middle with McDavid and Draisaitl as a 1/2 with Strome as a third. The RNH McDavid pairing gained some strong traction at the end of last season and should be a duo we see to start the season.

You're totally right. Just frustrating when your team's GM makes a few terrible trades and then everyone with a keyboard thinks they can throw out cabbage trade proposals.

I'd be very sad to see RNH go, but no one has yet to suggest a trade that's even close to me saying: "you know, that might actually make the Oilers a bit better."

Correction to your facts that you outlined. You stated that Borgstrom has 3 years left on his E.L.C. as he has only 2 years remaining. He was drafted in his 2nd year of being draft eligible and played 2 years at college after being drafted. His 4 games played were in his 3 rd year of being draft eligible as a 20 year old.....

I like Borgstrom and see a bright future in 2-3 years. That being said Edm does not make ( Nugent-Hopkins) this trade as him as the main return plus your 2 extra throw ins.

Need NHL proven players if RNH is going and by proven I mean 1st line guys or very good d-man that can be a #2 or #3.

By no means do I think RNH is untouchable, but he and McDavid have chemistry and our coach/GM likes having a lot of extra centers in the lineup. No real need to move the guy unless it's an overpay.

I think that you have to look at RNH as Edmonton's 1st line LW, not a 3rd line center, but also someone who can take draws when called on and is defensively responsible. In the 13 games that RNH was on McDavid's wing to end the year, he had 15 points, and elevated McD's output to something like 23 points. Considering that, there is absolutely no reason for Edmonton to move him, IMO.

I honestly don't think I trade Borgstrom for RNH straight up.

I love me some Borgstrom and think he'd be a great fit on the team and I even like the results that I see from Weegar in his stints with the big club, but we can't trade a strong piece like Nuge for a guy that slots as a #7 and a prospect whose range is tough to gauge. Maybe something closer to Pysyk instead of Weegar and the pick?

Fun game to play but Tallon isn't making any significant trades. He just bit in the ass with Marchassault and Smith. He will only go the free agency route.

Chia wouldn’t make this deal....the 10th pick has to be thrown in and THEN it will be a Chia deal

I dunno dont under estimate how stupid Tallon is. Nuge was a +10 last year. He got rid of Marchessault and smith bc they were minus players.

Just think of the assets he would give up for a +10 guy

What about Max Patches from Montreal straight up for RNH? Him playing with McDavid, I can see Max bagging 35....40 possibly. Mtl needs a center. Nuge gets first line minutes and number 1 pp in Mtl. Or am I once again overrating a player on my team? Nasty HABit of mine

Pass. We likely won't be able to afford Patches after next year (Kane got 7mil, Patch is worth 7.5). Aside from that he's 4 years older than Nuge, doesn't play C and Nuge just showed he's more than capable of handling wing duties on a line with Connor. Connor's line doesn't need another shooter to succeed; he's becoming his own shooter.

If it weren’t for the fact that he’s on the last year of his deal, I’d be inclined to agree with this proposal.

It’s too bad that Patch doesn’t have a couple more years left in his deal. If he did then I’d be all for acquiring him.

I'd rather keep Nuge. It's at best a lateral move and likely a negative move in the long run. I like Pacioretty as a player but, after Nuge showed what he did this season, I'm apprehensive to move him at all.

Nuge did impress, especially after he was moved to McDavid’s wing. But I’d still be tempted to move him for Pacioretty (had Pacioretty more term on his current contract). The move would arguably be lateral performance wise, but would still come with significant cap savings.
