If any Hart voter held the number of Giroux's secondary assists against him, they need to have their vote taken away.
That is a ridiculous, superficial rationale to evaluate a player's worth relative to other players.

I see it as an indication of how most analysis of player is done by national pundits. From afar using statistics without watching the player actually play much.

In b4 people say Giroux would have more primary assists if we moved him back to center. |

this is so stupid. leave things alone. Sometimes the first past is the more difficult play that leads to a goal. what if a dman springs a forward with a long pass and said player taps it over to another player for a goal. that initial breakout pass doesn't warrant an assist? stupid. plays don't happen without the secondary plays |

I think what we really need to know is what is G's primary points per plastic straws used?
I kid, I kid. We can stick to the usual script today. Hockey and drugs and not being emotionally attached to children and 98 year old Flyers fans that became Bruins fans because they don't like MJL. |

Imho anyone judging a player solely (or even in large part) on numbers on a piece of paper is wasting his/her time and really isn't someone I with whom I want to have a hockey discussion.
That's why I love Bill and his articles. He sees the stats/numbers but also watches the game and understands the players and the importance of the parts of the game that don't end up in black and white. |

Exactly.
Primary and secondary assists are silly statistics to try to parse the value of in a sport (and surrounding culture) that so utterly prides itself in being a team sport. |

Exactly -- people are overthinking one of the simplest things this sport has produced. Secondary assists matter. Anyone who devalues them is just looking to start a conversation because they seek relevance, not to make the game's statistics more illustrative

Giroux has never been well-liked, particularly from the Canadian media. Grabbing police officers from behind didn't help. Was definitely stiffed from Team Canada and barely used in the World Cup. It's all good. He's put together a fantastic career and when all is said and done should be an absolute shoe-in for the hall. |
