O'Regan seems like what we have in a lot of Sabres forwards, an in-betweener as of right now. This should breed a fair amount of healthy competition for NHL spots among all these youngsters especially with the addition of veterans with Beglund and Sobotka taking up NHL spots (unless there is another trade before camp..?)
This is definitely Botts playing the "long game" to be a contender, but I think we're still short a couple pieces on D, a few NHL forwards (particularly that can score),and our goaltending remains a big question mark until proven otherwise.
Trades don't seem to promising so I guess we just wait for a couple more years and hope the draft & develop model actually works for us. (and there is no guarantee it will even with the decent talent we have so far).
But, before this thread gets too divisive (again!), we're Sabres fans, we know how to deal with losing although some deal better than others.
