They really took the wind out of my sails last night.
Very disappointing start to this season. |

Nice job, Mike. Well done as usual. This one hurt...not necessarily the loss, but how we lost. SSDD. |

Optimistic Rhino here:
Over half this team has never played a single game with one another. Eichel looked off. We had zone time, but wanted to make passes more than attack the net. This can be fixed. I think everyone assumed we would start slow...well, here we are. Don't go total mope mode until we are playing this way a month or two from now.

Other teams "stars" find a way to make a difference. Please don't make excuses for Eichel. Gil Perreault was arguably the Sabres best player from age 20 until his retirement. I know it is only one game but it is time for Eichel to rise to a higher level. |

He overpassed last night. It’s not like he wasn’t in the right positions. Hopefully he changes his mindset and he’ll be just fine. I thought Mitts was good last night. He needs Sheary on his wing though not Sobotka. |

However they do need to stop trying to be pretty at home. Just play the game, take the shots and stop trying to make every play an ESPN Top 10 play...ESPN doesn't care anyway...

The fact this happened the first game almost makes it worse. They had literally weeks to prepare for this game and mustered literally nothing until the third when the Bruins sat back to defend.
Hamilton interviewed Sheary at the end of the first and he said they weren't prepared for a big push from Boston.
Really?? A team gets steamrolled 7-0 on national tv the night before and you weren't ready for a motivated Bruins team?? That's not coming from a rookie, that's a guy that's won two cups, either players don't give two sh!ts about the game prep or the coaching is severely lacking.
Game 1 or game 82 that effort was pathetic from almost all on the ice, and that is not excusable for a pro athlete.
Sure its the first game together, does that mean no body has to try beside a handful (if that) of players.
I'm not saying the team is a right off or that they are done 1 game in, but that game last night was a punch in the gut. |

they dominated possession in the third period while down 3-0...buffalo pulled the goalie with almost 5 minutes left and spent most of that time in the bruins zone

A really good analysis -- I doubt they'll get rid of Housley, but I agree with you in his regard.
Eichel didn't impress me as much of a leader, and it was like everyone was doing their own thing instead of playing as a team.
We'd seen enough by the end of the second and got outta Dodge. Feel like it's gonna be another really long season... |

no soft goals, but basic tap in from the Bruins. When the breakdowns happened the Bruins were left wide open in front of the net and Hutton had no chance.
Also most of Buffalo's shots were from the outside. Very little high danger chances. So in this case, the data doesn't tell the whole story. |
