Trevor Shackles: Regression Incoming
The Senators offense won't be this hot all year long - Trevor Shackles
Agreed. Many still believe you handed Nashville Jack Hughes. You guys had a great start but Anderson will struggle to maintain his great start. Fun watching all the young guys get a chance. I remember Chabot dominating the Blue line for Canada's world juniors, and it looks like he really could be a franchise D for you guys. Lots of positives from this start, but I agree it will not last.
Lastly, Ceci is horrible. Thanks for letting my devs take your sloppy seconds (hall) |

This is a tear down and rebuild. Expectations are low. Sit back and have fun watching the kids play and develop. |

Who care if regression is coming.Like previously said its a rebuild.I just enjoy rookies being good enough to make me feel good about future. Why always bring negativity when we should just enjoy watching exciting games. |

I spoke to Chris Kelly a week or so ago; he mentioned he was liking some of the young guys (obviously going to say that) but he also stated he was going to see Josh Norris at Michigan. I think it's interesting to see one of my fav defensive centers go see the guy; I think the center ice of the Sens is critical to how successful this "rebuild" is going to be. I think the team has been great at finding wingers deep in the draft (Stone, Hoffman, Dzingel - now Batherson, Formenton) but centers are virtually impossible to find past the top 15-20 in each draft. I mean quality centers that can play in the top 2. I don't know if Norris realistically is one though. Him and Logan Brown are x-factors in the success of this team's future and that's what's so frustrating about not having a top center pick (like MTL just had).
If they don't resign Duchene, what the heck are they looking like long term?? |

I barely recognized Keith Tkachuk without a hotdog in his hand... |

2 asists for Batherson, no big deal.
Also, Wolanin seems to be putting up points in Belleville too, I imagine he earns a call up the next time there's an injury. |

Fun team. Hard to believe that will be able to keep up after Christmas when teams ramp up their defensive play. |

Trevor you are doing fine.
Not easy to come up with daily content that provides some insight into the team or pursues a hockey curiosity that everybody can share in the same light.
Keep following the same balance. You seem to mix a future based positive outlook one day (young guys, prospects and the farm) followed by the practical realities and hard choices that might lie ahead.
We know this is a much better team than we expected. They are far more entertaining than we thought any Guy Boucher team could be. Brady Tkachuck is worth the price of admission alone. Duchene and Stone are having exceptional years. Anderson is beyond superlatives and Chabot is a future Norris winner. Colin White, Lajoie and. especially Batherson looked really good last night. Ceci has had two good games back to back.
But, reality sometimes is nothing more than a wicked tease. The true faithful doubt that the Sens will be able to hang in once the post Christmas intensity kicks in. I believe they will slide and next year might be even a little more ugly.
But, they are a fun team and, if nothing else, they have rekindled hope and fans are beginning to talk hockey again despite the shenanigans of he who will not be named after such a good game last night.

Thanks, that's pretty much how I see it. Exciting developments from the young players, but the team as currently constructed is still not good.

No worries im not pointing you out more than any other writer.Actually you were one of favorites at silver seven sens.
Im the casual fan who dont care that much about what maths say about this or that.Im sitting relaxed and watch hockey.I may be naïve to think that senators could still continue to score like they do but it happened many times before that teams got to the point like its going well all by itself.
My concern is that defensively its very poor.Dont know if its because dmen we got are not good enough or its because coaching sucks. Its likely the latter which had been confirmed on this Uber's scandal. And while Anderson faced ton of pucks, his stats are not good enough...3.55 and .907 will not do it. |
