I get the fire Carlyle sentiment, I was stunned that he was still the coach after the Wild game earlier in the season, which was just as bad as last night's debacle, but what's the point sacking him now? Even IF they manage to make the playoffs, who can they beat? They might have a slim chance to get by Calgary only because of the past history but I wouldn't bet on it. This season is toast.

Calgary would score 6-7 goals per game. It would be a lopsided smoke show.

I hated the Carlyle rehire, but have no problem letting him hang around until the season is over. He'll be gone, and Eakins (who is having success with the Gulls) will take over. The kids he's been coaching will also probably join the big club. Heck, if the stars align maybe we get Hughes in the draft.

Team has been a constant playoff contender for almost a decade. I'm not gonna rack them over the coals for one crappy season. Team sucked with Kase out, surged with him back in the lineup, and now will suck going forward with him out for the season.

There have been several bad efforts this year and the team is looking like it's time for a complete revamp. Some good young talent on both ends is being hamstrung by management and aging stars. Carlyle should be fired, Murray fired (?), Getzlaf requesting a trade (he could really help a lot of teams, but would they pick up his contract?), and seeing if we can offload Perry's and Kesler's contracts. None of that will probably happen, but removing the coach might be the easiest and cheapest thing to do. How can management not see this? Living in the Boston area means staying up until midnight to finish watching games, only to go to bed depressed and listen to Bruin's fans whine the next day about a loss hear and there. Ughhh.

Bob has already said he wants to get younger. With kase out we lose our best play maker. And that's a big blow. No Kesler either. With reports being that he reinjured his hip. I don't know how many more injuries this team can hold up too. The offense seems completely out of sink. The defensemen are tring join the rush more often to create more opportunities. Or foward lines are being completely juggled every game tring to find any offensive spark.
But this is life in the modern NHL. Offense is king. And not having a bonnfied top line scorer who can carry a team for a week or two really puts you at a disadvantage. And our best players can't domminate the game like they use too. But with our cap space over the next few years being as tight as it is I don't think we have another choice but to develop the current prospects in the AHL and hope for them to make quick adjustments.
As of now Bob is probably the only guy right now that can fix this. A big trade has been in order for a while now. The sprong and henrique trades have really kept things going this past couple of years. But as good as those trades have been it's only kept us afloat. And our GM is going to have to hit a grand slam in a trade to fix this. Or we wait 3 or 4 years to develop a top line player to do something. Assuming we can draft that high enough to get a player of that caliber.
At this point though. I'd say sell is the immediate response that needs to happen. Try to get first round picks. Then in the offseason look for more opportunities to get what you need in a trade. That way even though one move doesn't work the other might. We can trade those picks for a player we need or draft one we can develop.
