Much to the dismay of the analytics community and those who watch games to be entertained, the Buffalo Sabres of late have been focusing upon defense and have won two of three games (by identical 3-1 scores.) This was after a very entertaining game of shinny with the Carolina Hurricanes where they lost in 6-5 in overtime. The word "boring," or some variation thereof, was used often last night on social media and in chat rooms and it's hard to understand the driving force behind someone's decision to watch and follow a team. Would you rather see an entertaining 6-5 loss or a boring 3-1 win?
I will say, the Wild and Hurricanes games were some of the most fun games I've watched this year. Last night wasn't the most fun game to watch, but that's how Trotz wanted it. At least we beat them at their own game.
And yeah, I'll take the wins 80% of the time, but you're not gonna win every game, so when they lose, i'd rather it be a "fun loss" than a 1-0 snorefest (Dallas).
Eichels best complete game of the season last night.
Heavy on the back-check
Pommer "picked" the islanders rw on skinner's goal.
The legend also went to the net hard with his stick down.
Something other younger Sabres should pay attention too. He outworked the islanders defenseman. That's how he scored. Let jack make the play and finished it.

I think Pach just took a direct shot at me because I suggested that after the Carolina loss. OK, I probably deserve it. A win is always better than an entertaining loss.
BTW - I thought Larsson was the #2 star after Ullmark. Great game by him and the 4th line overall.

Ristolainen was making Scandella look like a top pairing defenseman.
Minnesota may be sellers at the deadline, and if they are I wouldn't mind calling about Staal. Could come right in as our 2nd line center and has familiarity with both Skinner and Pommer. Being a 34 y/o UFA compared with others that may be available, I would not think it would cost too much.
