From last blog. Flyers fans saying what Gufas did wasn’t that bad and doesn’t deserve a suspension. What Malkin did was worse.

Now time to read (reed)

Are you suggesting the Pegulas should move the team to Boca Raton?

Mike, seems like the Pegulas just kind of put someone in charge of the organization and then leave it alone, much like what Darryl Katz has done in Edmonton with similar on-ice results.

Is that fair to say?

The Peguals have tried numerous approaches to ownership and for the last seven years it has gotten them no where with the Sabres. There's little difference between the team they saw last night and the one they saw back in 2011-12, their first full season as owners. It's their baby and their money and they obviously will do what they want, however they should have figured out by now that absentee ownership without strong supervision of day-to-day operations, specifically in the hockey department, is a recipe for disaster, no matter how many times they tank or how much ill-fated money they're convinced to throw at problems.

Honest question here:

Is the problem that they are too far away, or that they meddle too much?

I thought the narrative was that they were too involved in the decision making process (and that goes for the Bills, too), and that's what causes problems.

Pach for VP of Hockey Operations!

Brutal game last night. That first period was a real snoozer. And then they choked like a 95-year old man swallowing a chicken bone.

At this point, i don't know if firing Housley would even make a difference. How many different coaches and GM's do the Sabres need to go through? We couldn't even win the Stanley Cup when we hired Scotty Bowman in his prime.

owners should leave it alone, however club should be in capable hands and there's the rub...I wouldn't put that kind of responsibility on two first-time gm's

the problem, imo, stems from them not having a hockey guy in charge of hockey ops...from what I've read on them, the want to be in control, which is their right as owners

I guess my curiosity comes from what Dundon has done in Carolina vs what other owners have been doing. In his interview yesterday about essentially buying the AAF he said he's able to take his hands off the day-to-day aspects of the Hurricanes now because they've now established an organization wide decision making process that he's satisfied with.

Do we know if the Pegulas have established set procedures for how the GM and President has to operate or is it more of a traditional "Well, it's his call" kind of thing?

Just bring me the trade deadline already. At least something interesting will happen. Watching the season unfold has been depressing. Bring me the (probably underwhelming) trades !!!

terry had his inner circle when he bought the team...

the first team president was ted black, a communications guy
the second was russ brandon, a marketing guy
the third is kim Pegula

they brought in pat lafontaine as their hockey ops guy but it only lasted a few months...he left, supposedly, because the direction the team was taking under the guidance of Pegula and black

lol fair enough, I'd just think that if you're going to go to your owner with something, you should probably have to be able to prove that it's going to make the team better.
