Carol Schram: Hughes gets 2 points but Canucks lose to Preds, finish season Sat vs. Blues After a disappointing last-minute loss to the Nashville Predators on Thursday, the Vancouver Canucks will wrap up their 2018-19 season with a Saturday matinee against another hungry team, the St. Louis Blues.

You have basically made one adjustment to the current group of forwards . The only player that was not brought in by JB was Bo. Not meaning to be devils advocate but if you would be happy with that group then why is is a make or break summer then?

Also you left off Roussel

Leivo and Pearson have had success here, but not full seasons. They are similar to new players brought in for us. Leivo does have a larger sample size, but a lot of that was trying to find his fit on the team. Dzingle is a fairly big add to me as he can score between 25-30 goals for us, but won't break the bank due to competing with guys like Panarin, Duchene, etc.
Roussel I left off as who knows how he will be after his knee issue, and he is likely to miss the first couple months. 6-9 months out puts him to a return of september-december. Inking him for the season opener is pure stupidity as that is a best case scenerio. He likely pushed Granlund to 4th line RW and takes 3rd line LW when he is back, but he may be slow to get going after his knee getting (frank)ed.

Anyways, that roster looks improved from our starting roster last year. So yes I am happy with it. Our defense is the biggest issue to improve. Getting an offensive minded Defender will also help to improve our forwards point totals, Hughes can't do it all alone and Edler needs to get off PP1 and preferably off PP2.

Thanks Carol! Nice to see that second half of the season stuff, that’s appreciated.

Jets limping in against the Blues does not look good! Hopefully they play dallas instead.

Canucks lose another close one and continue to impress.

I have no idea how he is going to look but OJ can put up numbers. His game in his own end is an issue but Canucks need to say bye to Poulot and Hutton now .

I think we are close to a team we can like. I still would like to see Canucks get a player like Kapanen and Anthanasiou instead of a big signing locked in for years but that is just me.

this is exactly my thinking too. We know we are going to overpay for any free agent this summer, so staying away from all of them is ideal.

I think there a few teams that are in for a tough summer to sign players. TOR/VGK/SJ to name a couple. Johnsson and Kapanen are two names I would look at buying low on.

I've pretty well written OJ off as a high end prospect, hopefully he can become a decent player in the pro's some day.

Maybe Tanev can showcase himself at the worlds and give JB a better chance of moving him for whatever he can get. He's got a tall order fixing the D.

The Calder is Pettersson's but no need to diminish the Blues' goalie by inaccurately describing him as "journeyman Binnington". He has only been under contract with one NHL team - the Blues. The fact that they switched minor league affiliates does not convert Binnington into a journeyman.

Looks like a journeyman to me. Very marginal junior career and struggled to establish himself as a starter in the AHL (unless he also has a long history of injuries?). Also a 40 game stint in the ECHL. Undersized as well. Certainly not a blue chip prospect at any point

Edit: about to turn 26 lol and he has a grand total of 32 NHL games
