Heck of a 24 hours for your team and New Jersey has a pretty good GM as well. |

I agree Jan in grading the Rangers draft an "A-" to an "A" for similar reasons as yours. I'm not upset on their inability to complete a trade in those 2 days to benefit any matter. Only 1 overall trade occurred Day One, while Day Two featured 23. Just 5 of the 24 in total included any roster players. The 7 days preceding the draft saw only 5 deals completed (including the Trouba trade).
In addition to obviously Kakko, I'm very pleased with their #58 selection of center, Karl Henriksson, via the Conditional 2nd Round final piece acquired in the Feb. 2018 trade of McDonagh & Miller to Tampa to further their rebuild. Despite Henriksson's 5'9" & 176 lbs. size, draft experts' word is he's a very smart & skilled play maker, which will greatly benefit any scoring type wingers.
Also in key, as to their other 2nd Round #49 selection pick earlier in 6'3" & 200 lbs. d'man, Matthew Robertson, the Rangers "possibly nearly recovered" the overall 20th pick they had just dealt along with Pionk on June 17th to acquire Trouba. That's due to varied pre draft rankings, including TSN's for one source having Robertson ranked as a 1st Rounder at 25th overall. Despite his virtually double, unexpected selection drop, it appears for now they earned a bargain. Or you can view it that his 2nd Round selection via that 2018 trade with Tampa, in effect became the 1st Rounder they were hoping that conditional pick would become, had Tampa won a Cup in either 2018 or 2019. |

my initial reaction to the Robertson pick normally would have been "oh great, another lefty D" but Robertson is a steal at 49
I saw mock drafts with him going late first round, first time they chose a WHL player in a long time
Zac Jones is going to UMass, he'll probably do three years there
I am glad that the draft guys all seem to like our picks
I was hoping for some trades, still hoping |

TSN had Matthew Robertson ranked 25th overall, making it a "steal" that the Rangers were still able to draft him at #49.
As for their lack of trades, I wonder if Gorton was possibly low balled with offers, especially on Kreider, & among those others specifically needing to be moved to create additional cap space to extend Trouba, and likely Kreider, in case Panarin does not have the Rangers as his option one.
But initially, it may now have hit the point where Shatty's &/or Smith's contracts will have to be bought out, in the event that Panarin should have the Rangers as his #1 option. |

new plan
offer sheet Sebastian Aho
I think the check Carolina will have to pay Marleau will be 3.8 mil to buy him out, and pretty sure they have to pay him immediately
Rangers should offer sheet Aho, put a signing bonus of like 12-15 million to be paid immediately upon signing
that owner is such a cheap bastard he'll be quaking in his boots |

So here’s a question for you guys, now that the Canes bit the bullet on Marleau, would you guys bite the bullet and give him a cheap 1 yr contract when he gets bought out? |

He is being to be bought out to go play in SJ.
I did find it interesting that its reported they are having trouble signing Aho but then go out and acquire a total waste of cap space. |

Yeah, I read he only wants to play there. Though you know that ny can change people’s minds.
I have no idea what the canes are doing. Cap comes in lower, then blow space. The extra 1st is nice, but Aho is a franchise player |

Imagine never shutting up that the Rangers should tank and they’ll never win the lottery blah blah blah, then it actually happens and then becoming an even more miserable bastard? |

Wouldn’t taking Marleau pretty much eliminate us from the Panarin sweepstakes? |

Sean Shapiro, Dallas Stars writer for Athletic:
Mats Zuccarello is going to test free agency and meet with other teams. The Stars have found issues with both his asking price per year and the length of the deal he’s looking for. Kevin Hayes’ recent contract with the Philadelphia Flyers (seven years, $50 million) certainly doesn’t help matters for Dallas.
Zuccarello’s camp is looking for a large payday, which is understandable for a 32-year-old entering what is likely the final contract of his career. It’s believed Dallas looks at Zuccarello as a player worth $5 million per season, while Zuccarello has visions of $6 million or more.
The question becomes — and this is something the Stars will likely bring up in this game of chicken — what type of team can really give Zuccarello $6 million or more?
If a contender is willing to offer that type of coin to Zuccarello, he’s likely gone. Winning is reportedly important to Zuccarello, so he’s going to have a decision to make based on what fits and what doesn’t for his long-term prospects. |

The Rangers have 18 million to sign Trouba, DeAngelo, Lemieux and Buchnevich
So let's say Trouba gets 7.5, DeAngelo at 3.5, Buch at 2.75 and Lemieux at 2, that is 15.75. 2.5 million, roughly, is left. Even trading two of Kreider, Vesey and Vlad only gives at most 11.25 million. Barely enough to sign Panarin. Not enough to do anything else. So why would people not want to get another controlable asset in a stacked draft year? Oh yeah, "Beccause it's not how the Rangers do things." A.k.a, no foresight. VERY BAD DEAL! |

Well I think you spelled it out yourself, we don’t have the cap room to take on Marleau. Since it’s an over 35 deal, I don’t think there’s any relief from his full 6+ million cap hit from a buyout, and if we acquire him and then try to trade Kreider/Vesey/Vlad to absorb his cap hit, teams will take advantage of our cap hell situation and bend us over in any trade. |
