No, his jersey should not be retired here. |

Retire Lou's jersey, ring of honor. |
|

Thanks Carol
I think there’s a better chance we retire Demko’s jersey before Luongo. That being said, with extra work with Ian Clark and Demko’s supposed superb stick handling skills, I wouldn’t be surprised if he usurps Marky by January. |

Thanks for hitting reset on that last blog Carol!
No to retiring his number. If he played out his contract here, that'd be a conversation, but that's not the case.
Definitely put him in the ring of honour though! |

I would say no to Vancouver retiring his number. The ring of honour would be interesting as Kirk McLean's #1 is already up there.
Also, I wish Florida would have retired his number against Vancouver. |

Prospect pipeline still 6th place is good. Players like Lind, Woo are being overlooked because there are just that many better prospects in the pipeline. They are still very good prospects.
Should just have a tribute night to Lou when the Panthers come to town. No sense in having his number retired for 2 different teams. |

I wonder how the many prospects Van is going to have playing at the WJC this year. I think Russia is probably favourites after their u18 win last week. |

Winningest Canucks goalie of all time right now. It doesn't seem like anyone is going to get to 250 wins anytime soon. |

And he holds the team record for most saves by a captain. |

imo hell get the pavel bure delay before it gets retired. once enough time passes his body of work will be appreciated. i also think with less goalies playing 70+ games his wins record will remain in tact for a long time |

Hey Carol! Easily the best goalie this franchise has had and a HOFer, yes to the full treatment imo
Quite the catfight on that last blog, must be August |

The bar for honoring players from the Aquilini era is (frank)ing hilarious.
So desperate to fabricate a rich history... |
|
|

like a few others...I'd like some time (three years, just like the Hall of Fame criteria?) to pass so that the historical context can be better appreciated.
Pluses:
During his tenure with the Canucks, Lou became the winningest goalie in franchise history, set the record for shutouts, and was the best statistically in both regular and post-season (though both Kirk McLean and Richard Brodeur were standouts during their playoff runs). He also won a goal medal in Vancouver at the 2010 Olympics (also gold as backup to Price in 2014), was the first goaltender to be named Captain of his team in 60 years, won the Jennings in 2010-2011, and was voted an All-Star in both '07 and '09.
Minuses:
Not winning in Boston (replaced by Cory Schneider twice in three games in Boston), the drama on his contract (including the recapture penalty), and playing more of his career with Florida than Vancouver all leave an unfinished and somewhat negative patina on his Canucks legacy.
Personally I think ring of honour, but not retired jersey. |

To me, the bar minimum for having a jersey retired is to be a HOF player who spent a majority of his prime playing for the Canucks.
Right away that would mean no to Linden, Nalsund and Smyl in the first place.
They could join the ring of honour(which is basically the ring of fan favs). |
