Tyler Ennis was on pace for 20 goals last year....PLAYING THE FOURTH LINE MOST OF THE TIME, and you suggest that he should be scratched in order to make room for prospects...how many other 20 goal players were there on this sens team last year still with the team? Give your head a shake. |

Ennis played almost the entire first half of the season on a line with Matthews, until Nylander came back. |

You mean preseason and like 2 regular season games? That almost entire first half? |

well who the hell played on Matthews wing when Nylander was out.....I remember reading in the leaf blogs and comment section about how when nylander was struggling, ennis should be put back on Matthews wing |

just looked it up, he played 51 games, and for the first 20 his most common linemates were Matthews and Marleau....the rest of his 31 games he was with Gauthier and a bunch of other wingers.
that being said, most of his production was in the 31 games he played away from Matthews...........so I was both right, and wrong.
either way, Travis' point is valid.....Ennis is clearly not in the long term plans for this team, so if there is a young player/prospect who deserves/needs some ice time in the NHL, Ennis should absolutely be scratched to make room. |

yeah you'd better write Boedker off before he even plays a game
that'll really ratchet up his trade value |

Or, play him and build up his value to deal them at the deadline. Then you can start giving the young kids bigger roles after the deadline. Still rebuilding, need to keep getting all the assets you can.

sure....but at this point, the development of a young player like Formenton, Davidsson, Abramov, etc....are probably more important than the 6th rd pick we'd get for Ennis.
the guy will obviously play, but if he needs to come out of the lineup for a game here and there.....I have no issues with that. |

Kapenen and Marleau and Johnsson. Rotation mostly. It was only 2 months. |

He had 18 points in 51 games and is making $800k. Plus he's on a one-year deal and means nothing to the future of this team. So ya, he's going to be scratched. |

Why exactly? I'd love to see your genuine answer. I feel like it's only because you don't understand it. All it's showing is how many chances he gives up compared to the average while he's on the ice. |

DJ Smith wont be able to help himself.
Boedker, Anisimov, Bobby Ryan and Ennis will all somehow manage to be getting top six minutes.
We'll need Pierre from Orleans to eventually have a "billy bean" moment and trade them away so Smith can't play them anymore. |

I thought the same thing - its basically trying to blame him for any unblocked shots from every position in the Dzone - which is absolutely fawking stupid!! Positionally as a LW he's responsible for the RD point shot - that's it. |

But as a LW he's not defensively responsible for all those heavy red areas around the net for example or anything in the slot or opposite side of the Dzone. You can't expect a LW to be flying around the Dzone like a chicken with his head cut off trying to block or prevent every shot. He's supposed to cover the RD point man. |

if the puck is on the opposite side of the ice, the opposite side winger would also be responsible to cover the slot, as the Dman from that side would have likely shifted to the front of the net. players have different defensive zone responsibilities based on where the puck is within the zone.
I played right wing all my life, and if the puck was on the other side of the ice, that forward near the top of the circle was my friggin responsibility
I'm not saying he should be blamed for all those shots, but to say that the winger's only responsibility is to guard the point shot shows a pretty real lack of understanding of how the game is played. |

I am glad there is discussion of scratching mediocre veterans. I can see guys like Boedker, Ennis, Anisimov, Boro, and Hainsey all getting a healthy amount of healthy scratched games. Combine that with injuries, there will be plenty of opportunity for the youngsters to make a mark. It might not look that way opening night but by Christmas, quite a few should be in the lineup. It will be on them to take advantage of the opportunity. |

It's not as if that's the only red area though. He gives up tons of chances all around the defensive zone because he's in that zone more often than other players. |

If you're playing man to man then the only reason you should be chasing the opposite side point man is if your other winger is completely out of position and has abandon his role, then you abandon your point man and it's going to lead to more out of position players. Otherwise you stick on your point man, it's that simple. The main point I was making, which you completely didn't respond to was that Boddker is not/should not be responsible for ALL the RED on that ridiculous chart, like it assumes. |

I did respond, it was in the last para....I agree that he shouldn't be responsible for all the shots....I disagree that a winger's sole defensive responsibility is to guard the point. |
