yea DSP has to be cut...hope its ASAP
Reider is fast, but has no hands or finish....do we really want/need that?
maybe he takes a 2way an dhe can be a warm body in case, but we already have fast fringe players like Czarnik
I'm not jumping to sign a guy who couldn't score a single goal last year no matter what his numbers are |

So with Point about to sign for under $6, that has to help with the Chucky negotiation. 3yrs at same hit as JH and Gio sounds fair. |

I really liked Talbot's body language - much better than game 1. If Oliver keeps playing like that he'll be watching from the press box. Agree - the plugs are plugs, dump them. |

What's the rule about how much of the cap you're actually allowed to use?
The almost 8 million the Flames currently have should be enough to get a bridge deal done and keep everyone. Is that rule they put in because the Flames couldn't afford to ice a full lineup when someone got injured an actual rule or just a thing where the league will frown at you? Or was the rule just that you have to dress a full roster for every game? |

Heard Eric Francis say under 6...still, Tkachuk should be fairly close to the 6.75 Point signed for, on a bridge. |

^6.75 Should be enough for a Tkachuk bridge but I'd still rather us sign him for 5-7 years. I don't like the idea of having Tkahuk and Johnny up for renewal at the same time--could see Johnny walking as a UFA if were still tight to the cap. |

I've said this before, but it seems like Kylington has been a prospect for about a decade now. I don't know why, but it just seems like he's been around forever. |

You can use the whole cap if you go over the team owners get fined and if you stay over they can take pics as further punishment |

Trade Czarnik for a 4th. That would give us 7.59 in cap space for Tkachuk. Not enough I don’t think.
Trading Ryan would free up plenty of space for Tkachuk for an 8 year deal. Put Monahan, Backlund, Dube and Jankowski down the middle, in that order.
Just a thought. |

Your math is bad. Valimaki will be put on LTIR, so the Flames would have 8.5 in cap space. Czarnik is better than Quine, so it makes more sense to keep Czarnik and just send Quine to the AHL.
Tkachuk also won't be signing for 8 years unless the Flames are paying 10-11 million a season. |

Pretty tough to swallow paying Tkachuk more than Point. The Flames will hold out until the season starts if Tkachuk is looking for that much on a short deal.

Not sure we want both Chucky & Gaudreau coming up in the same year. |

Wouldn't be the end of the world - gives a lot of clarity on how to handle Mony's next deal, and Gio is also up that year, so the "captain" cap won't be a thing by that point in time. |

I think the Flames would be fine with that. It gives them the most options. Giving Tkachuk a massive deal now means they're basically committing to Tkachuk over Gaudreau for the future.
If Tkachuk gets a three-year deal, they can wait a bit to decide who to build their team around, and end up with a massive return if they have to trade Tkachuk to keep Gaudreau in three years. They also get another contract for Tkachuk if Gaudreau decides to move on.

Seeing Point's brand new contract, a 3 year/18.75M$ contract for Tkachuk would be fait for both sides. It would fit into Cgy's salary structure (nobody makes more than Giordano), and Tkachuk could cash in when Gio retires in exactly 3 years time. And we wouldn't need to shed anymore salary except a few AHL demotions. |

This is the newest RFA-trend... |

I don't care about Tkachuk and Gaudreau being up at the same time. Our window is right now with Gio at the top of his game. In 3 years time, we might very well be starting a retool, and then Gaudreau might be trade deadline bait, not in line for a contract extension. |

All right, my math was off, but I’d do what is nessesesary to sign Tkachuk long term no matter how annoying the price might be. |

He was playing pro in Finland as a teenager-went straight to the AHL after he was drafted. He's only 22 but he has like 5 or 6 pro seasons under his belt so he seems older than he is

That’s a good point about Gio’s Contract being up at the same time a Tkachuk 3 yr bridge deal would be up, as well as Jonny’s. |
