Really too bad about Patrick, I was never a fan of taking him, despite his ranking, however, for his own sake I hope he can get healthy. |

He was the consensus number 2 pick. Who would you have taken? |

Let me guess.....
He's gonna say Elias Pettersson, but you just have to take his word for it. |

not so sure about starting 2 rookies on the 4th line |
|
|

2 rookies in the 4th line is the most exciting thing to happen for this team in a while. |

There was a lot of questions surrounding both nico and Patrick. Imo if there’s not almost sure fire hit in that spot (especially with hype of miro and Makar) you go d. Should’ve selected between those 2 but need to have nuts to go against the consensus |
|
|
|
Anyone else just tired of shootout? It’s not exciting at all imo. |

Traded down and pick up a young nhl player and other assets. If there was a time to trade the pick that was it |

Pretty much every flyers fan shares this feeling. You might like it more if you felt like your team had better odds of winning it. |

...And then kicked yourself for years that you didn't draft the big, skilled center who had been the consensus 1st overall pick in 2017 for nearly two years -- and almost still was even with injuries. Virtually every other NHL team would have taken Patrick at least second and absolutely no lower than 3rd. To say anything else is revisionist history.
Has Patrick made an instant impact offensively? No. But through his first two NHL seasons, Patrick has 19 more points than Sean Couturier did in his (note; the lockout half season skews this a bit) and only five less than Mike Richards did.
The migraine issue is a significant concern, clearly. But his development to date, while a little slower than other players, is well within the realm of many others who go on to be impact players offensively. Patrick, in fact, has had point-per-game stretches over 8-12 games at a time in years 1 and 2: the same sort of hints of what he can do on a more sustained basis as he matures offensively that Couturier (himself a consensus 1st overall pick entering his draft year) did multiple years before he moved up to the top line and everything clicked.
Now, Patrick is going to have to get and stay healthy. Chronic migraines are no joke, and will have to be managed. But his development cycle, while it didn't take a step forward point wise in year two, saw his two-way game take strides and his long-term offensive potential still remain pretty high.

The pick should have been traded for a top 3 defenseman+ aka what this team is still in desperate need of today.

1) Top-six center prospects, especially ones of Patrick's physical profile, are hardly readily available in their own right. If one is there, take him.
2) The team desperately needs its own homegrown young D men with top 3/ top 4 upside to realize that potential.
3) What team was offering a proven top-3 defenseman for the No. 2 pick? And, if any team was, which one was offering one who was still reasonably young? You can say a team "ought to trade" for this or for that, but it takes two willing sides to actually make such a trade happen.
4) Hindsight is 20-20. I don't recall many people clamoring at the time for the pick to be moved. |

Uuhhh. Justin Faulk just went for a bag of pucks. Teams with cap issues would have readily dealt a second pair guy for a second overall pick. Cmon. Hextall’s ego took over and he made the wrong move. Not the first time that happened. |

I thought Morin was a nice physical presence last night. Him shoving and tossing other players around was noticeable.

I gotta wonder if Patrick was just diagnosed with cancer if these bums would still be complaining about the draft. Unreal. |

Justin Faulk (or a similar offensive D with some major limitations in his all-around game) isn't getting any team a top-2 pick in the draft in a trade. |
