The fact you have started as badly as you have and are still just 4 points out of a playoff position is a miracle.
From my position, I hope the team continues to fall given the unprotected first round pick of yours we have this year. The big question is if this continues, how much of the core still left gets uprooted? Does Karlsson go first? Vlasic? Thronton? Kane? Who do you use to recoup the assets you need to head into a full on rebuild?
We had to do it last year with trading Karlsson, Stone, Duchene and Dzingel. You have some quality pieces that would all get some 1st round picks next year. The real question is how many do you want and how long of a rebuild can the fanbase take? |

They won't get anything for Thornton, Maybe DW will get 1 free pass at a tanning booth. He built this team, So he(DW) needs to go first, He tells Marleau No we don't need you, then he(DW) drops to his knees to resign Marleau. The Sharks need a fresh re-boot in the front office, Then DW can take PDB with him. This team is stale as old bread. |

I hate EK on our team. Would much prefer Burns. And argue all you want, Burns is 100x's better at D then EK65.
Vlasic is gold. Remember when he was out of the playoffs for us last year, we didn't win a game. When he came back, we started winning. Just because he's off to a bad start, doesn't make him the bad guy. The team is always chasing the lead so of course our team doesn't focus more on D and leaves the blueline out to dry more often with pinches and fore checks. |

I'm pretty sure the reasoning in handing out the contract to Karlsson was the fact that by the time the season ends, Burns will be 35 years old. How many good years does he have left? Karlsson is there for when Burns declines in a couple years. No doubt....just a terrble d-man in the defensive zone. Most people gave him a pass last year because of injuries.
Jumbo still has value....if he plays with talented line mates. I don't think he has value playing with Sorensen and Goodrow. Was hoping when Patty came back, he'd slot in on the 3rd line. Hopefully they can find a way to upgrade the 3rd line.
I would say they're not far off ...but then there's Jones.
Maybe Dell could steal that job! |

Can we please trade EK65. Why he feels the need to always deke when he's the last man back baffles me. Trade this waste of air. - keithward
4 out of the 5 goals tonight were in his face. The 5th he was out of position... |

EK65 makes the occasional jaw dropping skating play or pass, that's about it. Need way, way more from the top paid D man. That game may play in low expectations Ottawa, not in SJ. This contract looks like it will go from bad to worse as time goes on.
DeBoer needs to go, not necessarily his fault but this team looks adrift and a new pair of eyes, a new voice and leadership could only help. Thanks Pete, nearly got it done in '16. |

Big sharks fan. Bigger Bruins fan... I haven't seen the sharks look this lifeless in a while... When you sell your teams soul off for players like Evander Kane. Things can go south quickly..
Not really sure what the plan is for them if things continue to spiral. |

The one and only piece that has not been changed is Doug Wilson. Let's try changing that and see what happens... |

Unfortunately, Kane has been a bright spot this year...
Now if you would've said "When you sell your team's soul off for players like Raffi Torres..." (& even he was a bum with skills...)
Thing is, Wilson's philosophy of late seems to be, "We're fine with the goaltending as long as we can cover with the firepower we have." It worked last season, but remains to be seen thus far. They have the personnel to turn it around no doubt, but holy smokes...dismal. |

From the outside looking in, I feel like Pavelski was one of the biggest hearts on that San Jose team. I watched that comeback game against Vegas, Pavelski got hurt, and the team rallied. It was an emotional response for their captain, someone they all had a ton of respect for.
Now he's moved on, playing for a mediocre Dallas team, getting buried on the 3rd line and isn't producing. Every part of it seemed wrong to me, and Pavelski going to Dallas during the offseason really shocked me.
I think when they brought back Marleau, it was partially for them to have someone back again they can rally around, someone well respected that the team looks up to. I still don't think it fills that void overall. After the success of last season, and the Sharks not winning the cup, I thought maybe one or two more seasons before it's time to rebuild and San Jose was gonna have to go down in the standings and retool the lineup. When I read that Pavelski has left, it changed my perspective. Maybe this is when the end of this era begins and the rebuilding begins for the Sharks.
As a Wings fan, and them not going to playoff contention for a few seasons, the Sharks were one of those teams I was behind watching playoffs without a team to cheer for, I felt like they are deserving of a cup and wanted to see them finally hoist it.
Maybe it's just me being loyal to long term players, but if they are even close to making playoffs when the deadline approaches, I think they should get their captain back and make one more big push before the new phase begins for the team. |

Honestly, i agree but he is also on the back nine. I think it was a poor choice to sacrifice him/Donskoi for a declining EK. I think they could have convinced him to stay for 3x6. Having Erik Karlsson and Brent Burns is dangerous but neither one of them plays very good defense.
You have lost a lot of heart between Joe Pa, Braun, and Tierney last year.

We would also like to thank you for all the great stop gaps provided in the Karlsson trade. Tierney is a great mid-6 player, Demelo is our 2nd best defenceman overall despite being on the 3rd pair, Balcers is pretty flashy but injured atm but will be a very good Kevin Lebanc-style player soon.
And then there is the potential of having two picks in the top 5 next year...
Despite the hate expressed here, Karlsson is not this bad defensively and based on coverage I have seen he does not really appear to be all there mentally at this time. Seems checked out slightly as he focuses more on being a father and other priorities. That may not be a bad thing in the long run.
Trust me, put the right supporting cast around this guy and he can win you a Cup single-handed if all things align. |
