he had a great start to his nhl career but really struggled thereafter...don't shoot me but luke adam comes to mind moreso than baptiste and bailey...

He's nowhere near the fraud that Luke Adam was. He has talent, skill, and ability. He's a legitimate NHL defenseman right now.

His outlet pass is better than McCabe and Ristolainen combined.

While Risto may not be an elite “poop down” defender, he & McCabe are at least doing alright

I can't see sheary getting more then 4 mil on the open market, unless he gets 25 goals this season

$4-4.5m would likely be a fair offer, but for how long? Would you prefer Rust for one year at $3.5m or re-sign Sheary for three years at $4m? This will be Sheary's first time as a UFA. Maybe he's always wanted to go home and play for the Bruins.
I just think the Scandella for Rust trade is a pretty decent hockey trade , and not trying to discredit Sheary in any way.

Yeah but Ralph is playing him big minutes and not any other dman the same, thus he must thing Risto provides something that others don’t.

Btw, on the 2nd half of b2b games Ralph was very smart with ice time. Risto was a bit high at 26 but all other dmen were 20 or less. Eichel was the high forward at 18 (low for him) and the next highest forwards were bunched at 16. So basically Ralph rolled 4 lines pretty evenly with Risto getting a double shift one or twice a period. This smart ice time attribution will keep players fresh and help over the long haul

Ristolainen has what seems like a superhuman level of conditioning, but by your logic, all the players will be fresh over the long haul but one. Hopefully the ice time evens out to avoid that.

Ok, how about Pysyk or Sekera for comparison? Two dmen that many thought were going to be our future star defensemen who ended up being nothing more than a 4, 5, 6 guy that really are meh players.

He's at least a 3rd pairing LHD who can make a quality outlet pass. They need more of that as they have 2 of their top 4 right now who are questionable at making outlet passes.

Those 2 love firing it around the boards, sometimes when there is no pressure on them.

Personally, I hate watching that nonsense.
